Sometimes Not Knowing Is Better.

The other day I was looking for the obituary of someone I know in Central Pa.

I saw an obit for 2 little girls, ages 6 and 4. One died in 2016 and one in 2017. No mother was mentioned, just the father.

I made the mistake of googling their names.

Their mother, and her girlfriend, starved them to death. 2015 was the last time they were seen. Authorities found their remains buried in the backyard I believe at the end of 2021.

I cannot think of any punishment harsh enough for these two women.

Every woman friend I have ever had in 72 years would have had the police on my doorstep in a heartbeat.

What is wrong with people? Yes, I meant that as a rhetorical question.

@CrazyKittyLvr2 Very tragic. I bet the mother and friend were strung out on drugs and didn't know or care what was happening around them. They probably forgot the kids existed. Apparently the father wasn't too interested at the time either. If he'd been seeing them he'd have know something was badly wrong.

How horrible. On occasion I look at the local obituaries. This week, when I checked, there were three people whom I used to work with who had died. One of them, I later learned, was a suicide at 52. I was very sorry that I knew what had happened.

@CrazyKittyLvr2 I always read obituaries ...from the towns where I used to live. Sometimes I really regret reading them. And I now realize, at 68, I'm getting closer and closer to having mine published!

@cindyNC I normally don't read obits from that particular area but a friend told me about the death of someone I know.

I just happened to see the little girls picture.

Where I live the local newspapers come out once a week. Yep, once a week. By the time you find out someone you know dies the funeral has happened.

My mom would read the obituaries before any other part of the paper. She lived in the same town her entire life so she knew a lot of people. She told me she did not want a writeup for herself. She wanted to surprise people who would ask about her.

@cindyNC It's always a good day when you read the obituaries and see your name is not listed.

I read a lot of obituaries as part of the genealogical work that I do. Most don't mention cause of death. I usually get that information when I can get a death certificate. Some of those stick with me for awhile.
