Jury selection begins for Alex Murdaugh trial.

Just selection beings today for Alex Murdaugh's murder trial. He is accused of killing his wife and son...the Murdaugh name is influential in that area of SC...which may be why it took so long to charge him...they had to take down his grandfather's portrait that hangs in the very courtroom where he will be tried. They have already managed to get the death penalty eliminated, now I wonder if there is even a chance he could be found guilty, if he is. It's who you know....

Apparently in that area of SC , they usually pull in a pool of 100 people from which to choose the needed jury of 12 juand 2 alternates. For this trial, the jury pool is 900! Guess they think it may be tougher to find some unbiased jurors. The guy sounds like a scumbag.

I don't know many of the details right now..reporting on this case seems to have been overshadowed by the Idaho murders and the Walshe murder in Mass. I am guessing Murdaugh has pleaded not guilty since he is so well-connected and pretty much runs everything in that town.

It is going to be aired on Court TV. They will not air until after jury selection I would assume.

He pleaded not guilty.

His defense team's mandate is to convince at least one juror that THE STATE DID NOT PROVE beyond a reasonable doubt that their client committed these crimes.

I heard, one of his defenses is, the blood splatter on this clothes was not as a result of allegedly, multiple shots to his wife & son, but that he was in contact with them, when he (supposedly) found them.

This man has done so many horrendous things, not just the murders, he ought to pitch a tent and plan to live in a court room the rest of his life. He even stole from and defrauded his own family members and employees.

He isn't a very good liar...even the ridiculous suicide story wasn't believable. I wonder if he and Brian Walshe read the same "how to be a really lame murderer" book. I think he is already very confident he will walk free. Then they can re-hang his grandfather's portrait in the courtroom.

Has the case of the death of his former housekeeper, whereby Murdaugh embezzled her insurance money, away from her family, been closed already?

How about the death of that lady on the boat his now "late" son was driving?

How abt the case where Murdaugh allegedly solicited (& ?paid), a guy to shoot Murdaugh to death, & to call it murder, so remaining son could collect remaining funds (?Murdaugh insurance) & so Murdaugh cld escape all of the above, plus, additionally, escape Murdaugh's incessant, repeated embezzling (& other of his, addt'l such crimes)?

I hope prosecutors are allowed to discuss his drug addiction and alleged financial crimes by way of explaining possible motive for the murders.

They could also use the addiction as an excuse for the murders and other crimes; he was under the influence of something and so didn't know what he was doing, etc. I am doubtful he will ever take the stand in his own defense. No competent attorney would suggest that. He has been a criminal for years and is just now being held accountable for anything. I hope his other victims get the justice they deserve.

I don't know how they'll find impartial jurors. I would think everyone in that part of South Carolina knows about the case and has an opinion about it.
