@JaneMarple The OP of that thread mentioned the date of the coronation along with the news about Eugenia in her first post. It was Diana's wedding dress that was off.

I truly hope that all three days are not televised on all the major channels in this country. Sorry, I just have no interest in watching this.

Every thread about the Royals, gets Diana brought into it. I've never been a fan of Diana; I'm more a fan of Queen Victoria and Churchill. In future, I may just bring them into those threads.

@Krimpette I completely agree. The fawning over the same monarchy we ditched in 1776 is so old.

I may watch some of it. I have mixed feelings about the whole royal family thing. It is good for the UK in some aspects, and not so good in others. I think years from now, when hopefully there are no more royal families, people may look back at the fact there was a royal family with massive wealth, yet not much power, and think, huh?

@JaneMarple I watched Princess Elizabeth crowned Queen. The Tv was black and white but her coach was like Cinderella's. Everyone talked about it in school.
I'll watch some of the Coronation but it can't compare to Queen Elizabeth's!

@Puppy Lips If you're talking world wide, not a snow ball chance in hell. Most royal families go far back to anciant times when Europeans were just leaving their caves and/or mud straw huts.

European royalty are newbies in comparison.

If you are talking about England's royalty, I doubt thay will disappear years from now judging from the crowds when any of them make an appearance. And lets not forget the massive crowds that showed up in poor weather (stood in line for hours in freezing weather) for Queen Elizabeth's wake, funeral, etc.

@Mz iMac Well I guess I can only hope. People in the royal family are no better than the average Joe. They get born into or marry into this royal family. And then what? They get vast wealth by performing their duties to their country? Duties like cutting ribbons and visiting hospitals and charities? I am just talking about the UK now as I have no idea what other countries do. The citizens of the UK pay a lot of money to support them. I am guessing that costs way more than the existence of the royal family brings into the country in the way of tourism and junk sold at the stores. It is great that the royal families are respected and I guess are a source of hope for the people. I can not imagine that the people in this country would ever put up with having a royal family. That would be an outrageous idea to most of us.

I guess I'm not with the norm here but I do find the royals fascinating. I'm not just referring to today's family, but throughout history. It totally mesmerizes me. I'm almost finished with Philippa Gregory's series. Her novels are written from the women's perspective and very interesting.

Now, will I sit for 3 days and watch this upcoming event? Heck no. I may watch some highlights but I am more interested in the history of their traditions and attire. Unlike some posters, I do not want to see the royals vanish, they have no authority but I do believe the line should continue. Just my opinion and know others don't agree.

You are not alone. There are many royal loyalists that want the monarchy to continue. If people truly wanted the monarchy gone they would have disappeared by now. The monarchy will continue despite some people's beliefs that they are no longer relevant.

Actually, since it's already been made known that the big anti-monarchist org will be protesting the whole thing, I'm rather interested in which networks will show them. The organization's gripe is that Charles is already king, and this extravaganza is a silly, needless event (and HUGE waste of money) that's a slap in the face to all the Brits who are just getting by.

At least, I think that's the issue.

The era of Elizabeth is over. I doubt there's even the slightest chance that people will ever care for Charles as much as they did for his mum. Personally, I think he's in for a very bumpy ride, and H&M are the least of his issues.

More than likely, will be showing the coronation commercial free. The commentators will be British. They will provide an interesting history of England's "coronations" through the centuries like they did for QE funeral-history of Windsor/Tutor funerals.

Queen Elizabeth's coronation took 1 day. What is going on for the other 2 days after King Charles is coronated? Or the first 2 days are "events" leading up to the actual coronation on the 3rd day?

SIDEBAR: QE was coronated 16 months after she was made queen whenr her father died.

Im going to watch every second that i can. Im an anglophile and i just love it all the tradition and history.

It will not be like Elizabeths. It will be shorter and more modern.

Ive seen a documentary on Elizabeth 's Coronation. The rituals go back a thousand years, literally. So crazy what young Elizabeth endured. Highly recommend if you can find it. I dont know the name. I think i will try to watch it again if i can find it.

First one ever televised. KCIII 's will omly be the 2nd.

The British citizens pay less than a dollar/pound a year to support the Monarchy. I have never seen any Royals cutting ribbons. I have local and state officials in the US cutting ribbons. Are you aware that we even pay for our US Senators and Congressmen's haircuts?

England has a very long and ugly history of doing great damage to other countries. The terrible things they did to Ireland is revolting.
