Idaho murders. Probable Cause for Arrest Affidavit released. Very detailed.

A probable cause affidavit was released on Thursday. Here are some of the details:

One of the surviving roommates said she heard crying in the house the morning of the murders. She heard a voice say, "It's OK, I'm going to help you,"then she saw a "figure clad in black clothing and a mask that covered the person's mouth and nose walking toward her." She gave a description of the man as being about 5'10" and "not very muscular, but athletically built built with bushy eyebrows." The man walked walked by her. She stood in a "frozen shock phase," according to law enforcement in the probable cause affidavit. "The male walked towards the back sliding glass door. XX locked herself in her room after seeing the male," the roommate didn't recognize him.

Her statements and other evidence led investigators to think the murders happened between 4 a.m. and 4:25 a.m.

A Washington State University officer found a 2015 white Hyundai Elantra registered to Bryan Kohberger in an apartment parking lot. Officials were able to obtain the driver's license information of the owner, with the photo being consistent with the roommate's description.

"On December 27, 2022, Pennsylvania Agents recovered the trash from the Kohberger family residence located in Albritsville, PA. That evidence was sent to the Idaho State Lab for testing."

On December 28th "the Idaho State Lab reported that a DNA profile obtained from the trash" matched DNA on a leather knife sheaf found "laying on the bed" of one victim. "On December 28, 2022, the Idaho State Lab reported that a DNA profile obtained from the sheath, identified a male as not being excluded as the biological father of Suspect Profile."

"At least 99.9998% of the male population would be expected to be excluded from the possibility of being the suspect's biological father."

The affidavit also said that the only source of male DNA on the tan leather knife sheath was found on its button snap.

The affidavit also says that phone records for the suspects's phone show he was near the victims' residence at least 12 times between June 2022 and the present. "All of these occasions, except for one, occurred in the late evening and early morning hours of their respective days." The records indicated that Kohber's phone was near the scene between 9:12 a.m. and 9:21 a.m. on the day after the murders. Further review of phone records by law enforcement show he left his home around 9 a.m. and went to Moscow and went "back to the area of the Kohberger residence...arriving to the area at approximately 9:32 a.m."

The affidavit also revealed that the suspect had applied for an internship with the Pullman Police Department in Washington state in fall of 2022. The affidavit also stated "Pusuant to records provided by a member of the interview panel for Pullman Police Department, we learned that Kohberger's past education included (undergraduate) degrees in psychology and cloud-based forensics." He wrote an essay with his application that said he was interested in "assisting rural law enforcement agencies with how better to collect and analyze technological data in public safety operations."

SOME OF THIS NOT FROM THE AFFIDAVIT, WHILE SOME IS:

Law enforcement had reviewed local camera footage and noticed a white sedan which they then were able to identify a Hyundai Elantra in the area near crime scene. They notified all area law enforcement to be on the lookout for it.

The suspect had received a new license plate for the car five days before the murders. The affidavit cites records from the Washington State Department of licensing.

A law enforcement source told CNN that the suspect had "cleaned his car, inside and outside, not missing an inch." The same source also said the the suspect was seen multiple times outside of his parents' PA home wearing surgical gloves. The same source further said that the suspect was seen around 4 a.m. putting trash bags in his parents' bin and in his parents' neighbors' bins. The bags were recovered by law enforcement.

I wonder if his parents thought twice about fact that the police were looking for a white Elantra and their son drove one.

I thought I read that there was a food delivery at 4 am? I wonder if the delivery guy ever saw the murderer.

How the roommate who heard and saw him lived to tell is a miracle.

I still can't get over the roommate just locking her door and going to sleep. What kind of environment were these kids living in that she could hear what she heard, see a stranger walking down the hall at that hour, and do no more than lock her door? And no one checks until so much later the next day.

Yes, that is hard to believe. Maybe that's how you act if you live in a party house with people coming-and-going at all hours and you aren't partcularly friendly with your housemates.

@shoesnbags @ValuSkr Check in the full affidavit. I haven't read it yet. I just posted it here a minute ago. I'm pretty sure there would be more on this. She did think the guy was still in the house. Maybe her cell was not in the bedroom with her and she was too afraid to go get it. UPDATE: I read the full affidavit and this information is not included. Law enforcement only needs to provide enough information to make an arrest, so they didn't include it if they do know why she didn't get help.

Yes, I read the entire affidavit . What I cannot understand is why didn't the surviving room mate call 911 after she opened her door 3 times and heard her room mates say " someone is here " and then heard whimpering . The two surviving room mates did not call Police for 8 hrs later ! If she had called 911 , maybe one of the 4 murdered room mates my have lived if they had received medical care.

@scatcat You are right. The complete affidavit mentions that Kernodle received a DoorDash delivery at 4 a.m.
Here's the quote about it from the affidavit.

"This is with the exception of Kenrodle, who received a DoorDash order at the residence at approximately 4:00 a.m. (law enforcement identified the DoorDash delivery

this? So bizarre. Sure, she was in a frozen shock phase but did nothing.

Was this person on drugs, what did she do then go to sleep?

Must have been the biggest party house around. No call to 911 for way

too long, maybe they could have possibly been saved.

@threecees @The probable cause affidavit does not go into what she did while locked in her room. I'm guessing she had no phone in her room and was afraid to leave her room with the masked man still in the house. Police are probably keeping this information from the public at this time. Divulging this was unnecessary to get the arrest, so it's not in the affidavit. I think we should refrain from judgement of her until we know the full story. Everyone in the house had been out that night and she could have been drinking too much to think clearly. We don't know this for sure yet. The affidavit only has to give enough information to make an arrest.

@Bonkers1 @The affidavit discusses this. The driver was interviewed. If you have ever seen photos of the house, the first floor is attached in a way that makes the upper two floors sit in the back and above it as if the upper floors were separated.

I was thinking she may not have had her phone on her and was scared to leave the room. She did say something like she was frozen in shock. I don't think the affidavit said she went back to sleep, did it? These are all young girls. I'm sure the whole thing is very traumatizing for her. I do wonder why she didn't get help right away, and I assume it'll all come out later and make more sense.

My best guess is she couldn't get to her cell phone and she was too terrified to leave her room with the chance that the suspect was in the house. My second guess is she was very intoxicated and not thinking clearly. The most explosive possibility would be that she did call and no one showed up, but I doubt this happened. We shall see.

I was watching a recap on The Today Show this morning. I am still trying to wrap my head around that. I believe she saw this stranger around 4:00 a.m. but the police were not called until 12:00.

I have never been scared for my life and in shock so perhaps that's how some behave. ????

My other thought was that there were multiple roommates. Perhaps being a college student she just believed that he was there visiting someone. Pure speculation here. Perhaps a lot of people go in and out of the residence. Late night studying and such.

I am not sure and I am trying very hard not to judge, but it just does not make sense to me.

I'm seeing a rush to judgement on the roommate. I get the impression that there were plenty of people coming and going in this house, so running into an unknown individual in the wee hours of the morning may not have been a cause for alarm. She may have locked her door out of concern for her own safety, but that doesn't mean she feared for anyone else, she may have thought the man was a friend of someone else. I'm also not sure what type of mask he was wearing. A hoodie and a face mask would obscure someone's identity, but not cause too much alarm given Covid precautions. In addition, his walking past her might have suggested to her that he was harmless.

These are college age kids that don't have the same life experiences of people three times their age. This young woman is not to blame for this monster's actions.
