Does anyone live where Canada Geese spend the warmer months? We have them now. There is a water hazard lake on the golf course a couple of blocks from our house. It is covered with them. Every morning at sunrise they fly away for the day. Late in the afternoon they return. There are huge numbers of them on this small lake since lakes and ponds are scarce in West Texas.

They are interesting to observe. I was curious if they are more scattered or if they stay in these large groups when weather is mild.

They're messy, aren't they? Around here (PA), people don't like it when they congregate in large groups - usually near ponds - but there isn't much you can do about it.

So, if they're staying by you for the winter, thank you and I hope they're not much bother.

We have a private golf course about a mile from us. Canadian geese love to flock there and hang out by the various large ponds. It drives the maintenance crews nuts because they do leave a mess and can be very aggressive. We see them in smaller groups near the homes that surround manmade lakes. One is near a walking trail so we just watch our step. They are beautiful to see however.

I live in South Carolina, and we have a number of Canada Geese that live here year round. There are a lot of ponds and a very large lake in my general area, plus still lots of open land for food, so they seem quite content to just stay all the time.

We didn't always have the geese here, they were introduced some years ago. They can make a mess, but I enjoy seeing them on our pond. I also love hearing them honk as they circle in for a landing, then the "sploosh!" as they hit the water.

We also have year-round residents here in N AL. Some guy with a big pond started putting in nesting barrels and I guess if you build it they will come. I don't see them as much in winter though. There used to be a pair that inhabited the pond next to the Y where I go to exercise. They would often come up to the building and hang out. One of them disappeared over the winter a couple of years ago. It didn't appeaer that the remaining one was interested in joining the flock that occasionally visited the pond, and he/she disappeared last year. Kinda sad as I liked watching them as I did my walking/running.

Some of the HOA's that have lakes are killing them though.
