Yesterday at the grocery store

At the "eggs" there were none. One poor woman stood there in disbelief. I said to her, I hope you didn't have anything that needed to be made or baked today. You could see her mind was just racing as to where she'd have to go next to find some eggs. It was so busy for such an early hour then too. We weren't surprised. There were just a few things we picked up. To be expected no doubt. SW MI. Lake Effect snows are due.

I've been tracking outside temps since I got up.

3:22 a.m. 9 degrees

5:00 a.m. 5 degrees 12 mph winds

6:05 a.m. 4 degrees 8 mph winds

6:10 a.m. 3 degrees. 3 mph winds.

OK this can stop anytime!!

I'm going to keep checking as long as the power holds out.

that's my area, too. Most stores, resturants, etc. are closed, even Amazon! Glad i bought most of my groceries, early in the week.

I bought eggs earlier in the week and I was shocked to see they were $5 a dozen! I've never in my life seen the price so high.

I bought 6 eggs last week. They were $3.49. I never buy eggs so I remembered the price. I just need two for a casserole recipe. I went ahead and bought them when I saw them.

I got eggs at Trader Joe's a week ago.

No organic milk at my chain grocery store, just their own brand which I don't like. I'll go somewhere else today.

My state killed another 1million chickens in the last month due to bird flu. The price of eggs is over the top!

I ordered groceries online and ended up cancelling. Too many drivers called in so they couldn't deliver and I wasn't going out yesterday.

It's currently -9 degrees and chill is -42. Our high today is -8 before wind chill.

Another "perfect storm." Holiday baking + Winter Storm + Bird Flu = Egg Shortage.

I hope the bird flu disappears and does not linger into 2023. It has been devastating for the poultry industry.

Those temperatures sound brutal. I've never been to Michigan -- and I'm sure it's a lovely place -- but I don't know how people survive those winters!

Michigan is cold but I think this below zero weather is not normal, not sure but I think it's this rare Arctic snap. We are still at -8 this morning in Colorado by next week we will be in the high 50's.

I've never been to Michigan either but will have a summer visit in the new year much better than this cold stuff.

I went to the market yesterday so I wouldn't have to go out in this storm today. Same thing here, hardly any eggs. I did grab a dozen but felt bad for people that showed up later as I am sure they ran out. They were also running low on bags of salad and milk.

It has been pouring rain all morning long, and the winds during the night were crazy and still are!!

Temps are mild here (RI) but will drop rapidly later today as the cold front approaches.

I actually took in my Christmas decor last night and glad I did as I am watching my neighbors stuff fly by my windows, LOL!

Trader Joe's was well stocked with eggs this past Wednesday as well as organic free range fresh chicken.

The local market had less eggs yesterday but the prices have been stable.

There was only one brand that was above the $5 mark. And those eggs were not even organic!

I'm not sure about Whole Foods; we barely stop in there anymore.

What's this with the lack of, or high price of "eggs?" Is this because of "bird flu,"

I've been buying eggs from a local farmer. You can see the chickens roaming in the pasture beyoond the market building. They are really good but expensive. I pay $7.50 for a dozen but they are worth it.

Today at Trader Joes people were limited to 4 dozen eggs. Who would need more than that?

At $6 a dozen that's only 50 cents an egg. Surely an egg is worth 50 cents. I only buy certified free range eggs. Those who buy eggs that are a couple dollars a dozen are subsidizing factory farms where hens are kept in rows of cages, so small they can never turn around, never stretch their wings...their entire lives.

Everything is up because of the stupid energy policies in place now.
