Coldest Air Has Arrived

At 6:56 am here in West Texas, the current temperature is 8, but the wind chill feels like -13. Brrr! Currently the wind is from the N at 25 mph. We are under a Wind Chill Advisory.

Ours comes tonight in North Georgia. 38 now and gloomy (as it just about every day). High of 48 today and a low of 14 tonight. High tomorrow is expected to be 20.

Look at this temperature drop. Note the short amount of time, 30 minutes, it took to get to the lower temp.

Shiver me timbers! Our torrential rain and wind starts today continuing to tomorrow when the freakishly warm temperature of low fifties drop to single digits and then below freezing. I am grateful that we will have mostly rain, with snow and ice at the back end of the storm. Whatever is wet from all the rain will flash freeze to ice.

Minus 1 here. Cold and windy and snow a blowing. Only good thing I am home and snuggled in. Have everything we need. No work until after the first of the year. Hooray!!

@gidgetgh I've been here 20 years now and I don't think I've ever seen the temps go this low in GA. And I agree. I miss our sun!

I've already had to have a conversation with my coworkers who think they have no preparations to make with freezing temperatures. Brought them up to speed on turning off their water unless they want a free ice sculpture at some point in their house or business.

@Laura14 January, 1985, -5 degrees here on day. It was so cold. And if I remember correctly, there was some snow on the ground....maybe. I remember a co-worker had to come get me because my car wouldn't make it up the slight hill to get out.

I out covers on my 2 outside faucets a few days ago. The water supply to those has always been turned off because I have never used them. Stay warm!

Be safe everyone and I truly hope it doesn't mess up Christmas or Holiday plans. My daughter left Denver last night around 5:00, delayed 90 minutes, and was lucky to even fly out. They were told flights were going to start getting cancelled in a matter of hours.

The Denver airport was crazy, even when I picked her up in San Diego there were more cars than I have ever seen. She is going to soak up our 80's weather before heading back next week.

They are calling this storm an Arctic Bomb Cyclone and it only happens once in a generation. Why does it happen on one of the busiest travel times of the year, Christmas! Be safe everyone.

It's TEN BELOW and I don't know what the wind chill temp is but it doesn't really matter when it's this cold anyways.

My house is well-insulated, I've got good windows also...TG! But yesterday when I heard that tonight will be dipping down to SEVENTEEN BELOW that's when I covered up some of my windows with heavy blankets just to keep out the cold even more. When it's that cold there isn't any kind of window that will prevent the cold from coming in.

Thank goodness this cold blast will be out of here by this weekend.

9:20 a.m. 4 degrees in Oklahoma City area down to 0 along the northen border with Kansas, wind chill below -20.

It arrived at my house early this morning temp is currently 4 degrees...today is trash pickup day in my neighborhood as you can only imagine trash cans have blown over and my goodness what a mess.....

@On It Good thing is that most of West Texas is not on the now famous GRID. We are just fingers crossed that there will be no power failures. Wish people would do their part to conserve power like turn off your outdoor Christmas lights.

Unfortunately our area just joined the infamous grid this year. I tried to explain to anyone who would listen before the grid crashed in 2021. We lived outside of San Antonio for many years and experienced brown outs in the hottest times of the summer. At least two per day for rolling blackouts was common on critical days.

My neighbors seem oblivious. Decorative lights are on as we speak. Here's hoping the grid holds.

You are so right your daughter was lucky to be on a flight out of here, so many were cancelled. That's great she has a warm up in CA and returning back to Denver next week it'll be back to mid to high 50's.
