Walmart bagless curbside pickup??

My WM is going completely bagless. Both in-store and curbside pickup.

How does that work for curbside pickup? I know I have to bring my own bags but then what?

@SilleeMee They bring you your order in large type baskets and then transfer it to your bags. I do not know who makes the transfer, you or the shopper.

Seems like it could be problematic on so many levels. One thing is that it's a for sure way of spreading germs from other peoples' bags to mine. If I have to get out of my car to load my own bags that's also a problem for me b/c I have issues with my hands. Things could get backed up in the mean time. Not happy about this at all.

I haven't heard anything about that here in Florida. What state are you in?

I could probably just put a bunch of WM bags in the trunk for them to use... lol But it makes sense to me. I use reusable bags when I go into stores & have for years.

They'd have to train the workers to use the bags we have and pack them correctly. Most of the time, when I use WM pickup, they avoid putting anything at all in the trunk organizer that is just sitting there empty & waiting to hold stuff in place...

Walmart tried paper bags on one of my home deliveries. All of them were torn, some pretty badly. That was the last time I saw them.

@SilleeMee @I can't imagine it working this way. I'd think they would just bring our orders out in the big crates they use now. With smaller ones for small objects. We could pop the trunk & they would transfer items to bags we have waiting in our trunk. I can't imagine any contamination or contact with other people's bags. I do not think they would tell us to bag the items ourselves.

Saving money on using customers to check themselves out. Now, they expect them to buy their own bags.

I wonder what "genius" thought this up...WE REUSE those BAGS for trash, dog poop, and a bunch of other things...

So if WE have to BUY more bags...WHO IS THE WINNER?????

The S T O R E, of course... Meanwhile, the "environment" still has "bags"...

I go to a different store that does bag less curbside. I put a clothes basket in the cargo area of my SUV. They transfer my items to the clothes basket and I take the clothes basket inside. I prefer it to all those bags they used to use.

LOL You won't hear about "nasty games," because there aren't any. Charging less for online purchases, whether delivered or picked up, is common practice. Walmart does it, Kohl's does it, Target does it...As a matter of fact, last week I saw a cat scratch bed at Walmart for $19+ that I'd seen online for $14+. A full five bucks cheaper, so I ordered it via my phone right there in the store, went to Wegmans, and it was ready for pickup on my way home.

@SilleeMee I asked a few WM employees this question.. no one had an answer. I was thinking our store was gonna charge 10cents a bag. I guess we'll see at the beginning of the year what they decide to do..DW

They will double or triple the price of something. I notice this with items I've purchased before. The price will remain high for a while, then they drop it down to a more reasonable price. These appear to be random items & the increase is huge, say from $5 to $15 or something similar. They make my eyes widen in disbelief. I'm not sure what the motive is.

Pricing is also not always the same online as in the store or at different stores. I was ordering one type of onion because it was less expensive than my first choice. Then, I stopped in a different store & discovered my 2nd choice was more expensive there than the one I actually wanted. This week, after weeks of being higher priced, the onion I wanted dropped to less than my second choice at the store I order from. For quite a while. The price had been more than double what I normally paid for it so I stopped buying it. Are they trying to get people to blindly buy their regular items no matter how much they charge? I don't know.

Guess that'll be coming up here in Denver to our Walmarts. I've been having more deliveries lately using Walmart free ship for $35 or more orders and Sam's Club free ship with plus membership, works out nicely. Picture those deliveries without boxes or bags.

Had a flyer in my King Sooper bag today that as of Jan 1 2023 they are required to charge $.10 a bag either paper or plastic.

@SilleeMee -do you have other grocery store choices that offer curbside pickup for you, other than Walmart?

@SilleeMee I really don't know how that will work. I do know that when the NY country where I used to live required stores to charge 5 cents for each bag of any kind, people learned quite quickly to carry their bags, In the beginning you'd see people walk out carrying everything they could; usually they were men who weren't used to doing the shopping. I also remember paying 25 cents for a bag in a European grocery about 20 years ago - locals all carried their own bags!

Where I live now, I don't see a whole lot of commitment to limiting waste or doing recycling.

The Wegman's where I shop went bagless back in Sept. You can purchase paper bags for 5 cents which they say goes to United Way. BTW, Wegman's has a bin to recycle store bags, as does Walmart and our trash company also accepts them as recyclable. I'm sure my Walmart across from Wegman's will follow suit, then Giant, Weis, etc.Too bad because store bags are reusable in several ways as already mentioned. I don't think any of them are interested in the environment. They're interested in the bottom line. After all, they still have the bags to put your fruits and veggies in, then you weigh them and put the price sticker on. If not for those bags, their checkers would have to take the time to do that chore , slowing them down. It's a bunch of bull. BTW, I'm in Pa. @SilleeMee , where are you located?

I don't do curbside, but I can't imagine standing in the pouring rain packing my own groceries or watching the shopper do it.

Anything not tightly wrapped in plastic would be ruined.
