Saw the Prime rib roast at Costco yesterday, $24.99 a pound. The one I was looking at cost $149.

And yes I had to wait in a line just to get close to the case.

Shaws and Star Market supermarkets are advertising 6 to 8 lb prime rib roasts for $8.99

a pound. 7lbs for $63.00. I would stand in line to save $137.00!

Never heard of Shaws or Stars Markets. Prices are different in different areas of the country. And I suspect those markets are selling Choice. In my area the cheapest I've seen bone-in Choice has been $13.99 lb. But for a Christmas dinner many people enjoy splurging on Prime.

I guess I'll never understand if someone is not interest in buying any item here, then what does it matter what it cost someone else?

I'll also never understand those posters who repeatedly come to a message board hosted by a shopping channel and imply or blatantly post negative comments about the items sold, blarantly make negative comments about the host, complain about the prices, complain about the IT department, complain about the shipping and the cost of the shipping, and top it off with snide insulting comments about those who collectively do make purchases. The ones who must be crazy to pay these prices, the ones with holes in their heads, the ones lacking critical thinking skills to price compare. You know those customers who do actually contribute to the company so the message board can stay up and running.

The best comments are from those who, what word should I use, almost proudly proclaim that they don't shop here. One would think that might be a comment best kept to one's self. Talk about biting a hand that feeds you.

In this climate of cost cutting what possible motivation should QVC have to continue with this forum when there are so many ungracious contributing guest.

There's a way to alert readers to a great deal or similar product at another retailer without denigrating the products or taste of posters here. There's a way to post constructive criticism about host or products without being insulating.

Okay, off my soapbox.

Is that a "Bargain"? I quit eating meat/fish/fowl in the mid '70's, so I have no idea. If that is called "a Bargain"? Sure glad with my choice decades ago.

For $200 I could feed myself for at least 3+ months!

As far as people and their right to express their opinions...whether or not they coincide with yours, should we ask them to provide an authenticated record of their purchases

on the Q either before or in the midst of expressing that opinion? That way all the stars or "prima ballerinas" or simply Etoilles can then grant them permission to proceed.

I've been shopping at QVC since CVN switched over, and HSN since the Dori Ball and Hans Burt days. I've bought everything from kitchen appliances to automobile supplies, to novelty items and home decor to real diamond and aquamarine jewelry from both places. Whether or not that gets me past your guardhouse means absolutely nothing to me. I will continue to feel free to express an opinion on the quality of product, the cost of product, the shipment of product, or anything else that affects my pocketbook or sensibilities as a consumer.

Yes, there is a way to post without getting down and dirty. But that isn't how today's world seems to work. So many political and religious leaders have preached hate and vengeance that it has become normal in many aspects of life...even on these boards.

However, everyone can post here about almost anything. People choose to read or not read posts.

Well I bought the prime rib AND the lobster tails.......prime rib for New Years Eve and the lobster tails for my own personal enjoyment through out 2023. If you are a prime rib

aficionado, you would never compare super market prime rib to the "real thing".

Bargain....no. But the price is not far off from what you'd pay at butcher shop. A lot of people value their time and energy and will gladly pay to have something like that delivered right to their door.

If you have ten people for dinner, that would be 20.00 a serving for the meat....which is far less than a restaurant would charge....

I thought I heard it would feed 18 people....that would be about $11 a serving...

Of course there's the cost of the other items on the plate too....but for once a year, for a party, it's probably not out of line as far as price....wouldn't come close in a nice restaurant!! And you'd have to dress up too!! (you could wear luxury sherpa-you'd look rich!!!)

Nothing I would buy ( Single, live alone)...but I do wonder why people can't find it locally, especially if they order ahead, which most butchers can do?

Of course, there are lots of food stores today without butchers..

It kinda shocks me at first when I see the prices for prime rib or the lobsters, but people aren't eating this every weeknight....and if you figure the individual cost per serving, for a party, it doesn't seem TOO off the mark...

I'm making a whole roast duck for just me for Christmas. It cost almost 20.00 for the 5lb duck, but I don't care. Once a year I make it, and I enjoy it!!! Will feed me for two days, so that's about 10.00 a serving!!!

I'm going shopping tomorrow and will check what my store is selling it for. Of course, it has to be the same grade.

You also have to figure in that styrofoam box ( styrofoam is made from petroleum products), the dry ice, and the expedited mode of transportation to deliver it before it thaws out and spoils. Frozen food is one thing that can't take the long way home....

They say "Free shipping" but nothing is "free"!!!

I wonder if those who complain about the high gourmet food prices would like to buy them, but can't afford them.

There's no doubt these prices cut out those with lower incomes. Everything with high prices do, so lower incomers must settle for lower quality clothing and food.

Meat prices are outrageous, even in grocery stores. Whose fault is that. Hamburger used to be affordable for lower income families. Not anymore. Now chicken and turkey, that used to be staples has gone up $1.50 a lb.

I could care less about the bird flu being the cause when factory farming is responsible by crowding these birds so close together, they can't turn around. They are stuck in these conditions their entire lives. What were we told about Covid or any flu...stay at least 6 feet away.

My market has choice for $8 a pound and prime for $22 a pound.
