If you live in NY will you be taking in any shows (on Broadway) or elsewhere this season?

The other day I watched an old Rockettes Christmas movie. I liked it so much before, I watched it again. Mostly. I don't know about any shows on broadway now. Never have been to one. I think if I did, it would be at the Met (?) and I'd watch the huge orchestra. I'd love that!!! Or a ballet.

Anyone?

I don't live in New York, but I do go up there on occasion. My next visit will in 2023. Going with my sister and sister in law to see Broadway show The Six. I didn't even know what it is about, but I googled it. A modern uptake on the six wives of Henry VIII. It's a musical. It was my sister in law's idea.

I used to love going to Broadway when I lived in NYC. Last show I saw was in 2019, The Band's Visit, which had won the Tony and which I enjoyed very much.

I have also seen and would like to see again--it's terrific--the show at Radio City with the Rockettes.

And in the summer I still go to the ballet at Lincoln Center.

The biggest negative of going to Broadway shows, IMO, are the narrow seats and claustrophobic feeling I get. They are old theaters not up to the physical dimensions!! of most theater goers.

@qualitygal You don't have to live in NYC to take in a stage or theatrical production. Theater is everywhere and is usually very good quality.

My son lives in NYC. He is going to a show this weekend, but he didn't tell me which one.

If you have never been to a Broadway play and you have the opportunity, I highly recommend seeing one. The impact of a live performance, music, and choreography is so much more impactful than one on film.

Have dinner or supper at Sardi's for the total theater experience. I remember the food was good, but the atmosphere and history are the highlight of being there.

I live in NJ and my husband and I will be seeing A Beautiful Noise, about Neil Diamond, next week. My husband retired in May, but used to work for The Shubert Organization, that owns many of the NYC theaters, as well as Telecharge. When he worked for them, we were lucky to be able to get free tickets to shows occasionally. We also attended the Tony awards at Radio City Music Hall several times complements of Shubert. It was fun to wear formal clothes and see some of the celebs. We'll be moving to Florida next year and I'll miss being able to go to the city.

Before covid I went to about 7 shows a year. Now I won't go to any and I miss it.the seats are very close together, and it is possible to have someone too close to you.if someone started coughing behind me I would become very uncomfortable. So sad it was one of my favorite things to do.

Not everyone loves Neil Diamond, but I would love to see "A Beautiful Noise," which is based on the life and music of Neil Diamond. A Beautiful Noise opened on Broadway, at the Broadhurst Theatre, on December 4th, 2022.

I do live in New York and have not gone back out to Broadway since they resumed show times. I will be seeing some performances though, not on Broadway.

I enjoy Ballet and Modern Dance and the Alvin Ailey Dance Group is back this season and I will be attending at least twice this year. I have missed them. They're home while in NYC is the beautiful City Center. I always get notified before all the good seats are sold out because I used to go almost every year.

The last thing I saw on Broadway (The Great White Way) was the stage version of A Color Purple and a Play called Wicked. There is no place like Broadway. There is no other Broadway. While some productions do travel and go from place to place (i.e., Hamilton) and CATS, there is no other experience than seeing a Play on Broadway. Seeing it in Chicago is not seeing it on Broadway and there's a different feel. It's what Broadway does.

@qualitygalif you are going to the Met you could be going to see an Opera or the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I will assume you are referring to the Opera. I don't enjoy that so much. Enjoy!

I went to see the Musical Grease in NYC years ago, maybe 10 years or so. Frankly, I was a bit disappointed in the production. If I had another reason to be in NYC, I would go to a show. But I will not make a special trip there just to see a show, as it does not seem like a safe place to be anymore.

We have three community theaters very close to us. They all put on very good productions. However, the tickets are a bit pricey, so we don't go too often.

For decades, I have been to so many plays, concerts, Christmas shows and have loved every moment!!!! Living right across the river from Manhattan, it is close enough for me to drive to, take the Ferry or train and be there quickly.

As far as seeing a show now I don't have any plans to do so but there are many that interest me. For years a group of us would go to the theater and enjoy. I miss the shows, concerts, plays and I am glad I saw so many great ones over the years.

I used to love day trips into NYC. Not anymore.

@Puppy LipsNYC is still a Tourist Mecca. Broadway is just as safe now as it has ever been. In terms of Covid restrictions, I believe they have loosened them and many people from all over the world descend on Broadway and other parts of NYC as tourists. Your statement about "safety" is inaccurate.

Yes, everything is expensive. These people on Broadway (all of them) even the people behind the scenes had no work for along time when Covid shut down the theaters. I understand the prices can be cost prohibitive (that's always been the case for many). The cost of an evening out for a show can run you some coins for sure @CelticCrafter .

@gertrudecloset Well I have heard a lot of reports, and seen video, of an increase in crime - thefts, murders, assults on the streets in broad daylight. No broadway show is worth the risks I have heard about. Maybe they are exaggerated, but I would prefer to stay away from NYC.

Last thing I saw was "Les Miz" .... must be close to 25 years ago!
