I feel bad for the people. They have a run on bottled water and ice going on in the stores.

Imagine having to take sponge baths? What are the Wenners going to do? Just kidding!

I'd hate to have to go through what they are now going through. Hopefully they'll get the problem fixed and soon!

I posted this on the health forum as well, but I hope that no one has had their health affected by this, and that a speedy solution to the problem is found.

I also mentioned, and I think it is important enough to repeat here, the importance of water storage for emergencies. Something like this can arise at any time, anywhere. We have had subzero temps this week, and many in our area have had frozen pipes and no access to water, at a time when going out, even next door, to get some, can be dangerous.

There are lots of web sites that deal with unique and creative ways to store water, whether a little or a lot, and it can be done regardless of your financial situation or your space constraints.

When a disaster or event like this occurs, it is much harder and more expensive to try to get water, than it is to set some aside now, while it is cheap and easy. In my mind, it is no different that having car, house, or life insurance. It is just a little insurance that will make life easier during a hard time.

I feel terrible for those people. I've been following the spill in the news, and just saw an update this morning. This could happen to any of us anywhere. There are so many people that are already suffering from exposure to the chemical, and who knows what kind of damage it will cause long term. The most frightening thing is that they have no way to clean it up, it just needs to dissipate over time. Really? Somebody is allowed to produce this chemical, but nobody has a way to clean it up when something like this happens? It's unconscionable! What are all these people supposed to do? Survive on bottled water for months? They are already being rationed on the bottled water. They cannot bathe, touch or consume their local water, so everything has to be done with bottled water. Can you imagine trying to bathe an entire family with just bottled water, not to mention cooking and cleaning dishes, cleaning clothes? It is effecting people going to work, so families are losing wages. It is a complete National Disaster. More needs to be done to help these people.

I live in WV but more than 100 miles from the affected area. My brother lives in the proximity though. His wife said they may not get water back for more than a week. Her parents live behind them and they have their own clean well water so everyone is doing ok. They feel pretty lucky to have that well. She said the National Guard has been out delivering supplies to people in their town and they are all getting along as well as can be expected and just trying to do the best they can. It's pretty terrible.

I live in southern WV, many, many miles from this disaster. However, when I was in the grocery store on Friday afternoon, there were no cases of bottled water in the store. When I was out yesterday, there seemed to be more traffic in the area, and the local paper reports that many of the people who are affected have driven this far to stay in motels, wash their clothes, eat out, and find more water.

WV had rain yesterday; hard rains in some areas, which will help flush the chemicals in the river. As I understand from last nights news, frequent testing is showing much lower chemical ratios in the water, which is encouraging. However, there has still been some fluctuation in the results, and there must be 24 hours of consistent low ratios before a decision will be made on allowing water usage again. Each homeowner will have to flush their hot water heater prior to normal usage, and the water company will credit them 1000 gallons of water to perform that task.

This accident has caused disruption and hardship for many people, but from what I am seeing on the news and reading in the paper, emergency assistance measures were put in place as quickly as possible, to help those who have been affected. Best wishes to all who are affected in any way.

I feel so very badly for all those living in WV whether living close by or not to the places of danger. My boss, lived there as well, and finally packed up and moved (too long story) but she for sure is now also very happy not having to deal with that anymore.
