Most Memorable Christmas Gift??

We have had quite a few Christmas gifts along the way. Some are remembered and others, not so much. I think, for most, there is one gift that stays with you through the years.

I will never forget one year, after packages were opened, my dad said he had to leave for a bit to do something very important.

A few months before Christmas, our beloved dog had passed away. We were all mourning the loss and did not even discuss another one.

Well, about an hour later, in comes my dad with a full grown Weimaraner. We almost fell over. Of course, everything was pandemonium.

We had a small house at the time and dog ran wild knocking into everything, including the Christmas tree.

Nope, will never forget that one!

@Mersha I have a few but one I especially treasure is from my son. Just out of high school and working stock at Mervyn's (how I miss that store) for Christmas he gave me a lovely bracelet. It is gold, very small links, and just beautiful.

He was so proud that he was able to buy it from his own salary and said to me, very earnestly, "It's real gold, mom." I will treasure it always and I can still hear him saying it. OK, need a tissue now.

Flannel pajamas and slippers from my grandparents. Every Christmas my grandma would buy me pajamas and slippers. Since we could not afford a lot of clothes, this was a gift that was truly welcomed each December.

When my sister and I were 9 year's old, we got accordions. We took lessons for 6 years and had so much fun.

In 1993, my dad made my mom a real nice hutch. He was a carpenter and it was really nice. Both my sister and I admired it. Fast forward to Christmas and he had made us each a hutch with the year and "Love, Dad" on the back. That was his last Christmas. He passed unexpectedly in Oct. 1994. It sits here a few feet from me. Now I'm crying.

@Love my grandkids My momma asked what I wanted after my daddy passed when I was in the 8th grade. I said I would like a dog that I could love and would love me back. Sure enough, Christmas morning I received a miniature schnauzer puppy, Benji. We shared lots of love, hugs and snuggles for 14 years.

My first stereo. My folks had convinced me that it wasn't in the cards that Christmas, so I really wasn't expecting it. While I was busy in the kitchen with my mom on Christmas Eve, my dad and uncle set up the stereo and when I heard the overture from West Side Story, ( my then obsession ) I was totally surprised and so darn happy. You see I was the nosey kid that you could never surprise and I'll never forget that present.

I grew up with parents that were not spenders. Maybe they didn't have a lot of money, maybe they were stingy. I like to believe the former but in reality they were probably the latter.

I remember as a child getting the game "Go to the Head of the Class" for Christmas. We played it til it fell apart.

Warning: Somewhat long post. For those who didn't see my answer last year to this same question.

An early 1950's 26" single speed bicycle with balloon tires. I told her I didn't want a new one or any other than early 1950's. They weren't made anymore so my mother had to find a used one. It looked new to me.

A little story behind that bike. I lost interest in college. My parents sold it or gave it away when they moved. Had been looking for the original model many years. Could only find 2. One was restored selling for close to $3,000. The other was sadly in need of restoration, but I could see would cost too much to have it done.

Two bicycle manufacturers began making reproductions of 1950's bikes. Schwinn and Columbia. So far, only two reproductions from each company. It isn't something they do often. They might not make more.

Lo and behold I was just looking around the internet and an ad showed in the upper right hand corner of my screen. It was an exact reproduction of the bike I had, limited edition. Only sold by 3 retailers and only online. I quickly ordered it. The first one came badly damaged shipped from Minnesota Target by UPS. Checked the other two retailers. The closest warehouse to the Northeast was Toys R Us shipping from Maryland. OK. I'll order it from them. Arrived in perfect condition.

It has a special place in the garage between the two cars where it is prominently displayed. I love it. Yes, I do ride it.

When I was 9, I wanted a diary. You know, to keep those girl secrets!

I wanted it so badly! It was the last gift I opened, it was blue and beautifully bound with a gold lock and key. I have never forgotten it.

When I was 15 years old a pair of Raybestos Precision Roller Skates with protruding square toe stops. At that time they were top of the line and I don't know how many lunches my dad may have gone without to buy them. I kept them until sometime in my 40's

A dark amyesthist, diamonds with peridot in the center ring from DH. My very favorite ring.

A puppy who turned into a 175 lb Great Dane. I had talked about one for so long as I remember the Dr who delivered me lived next to my Aunt and everytime we visited and they were out, I would go to the fence to see them. He was one of my babies. Miss him still.

Santa left a brand new English Racing bike under the tree when I was eight years old. No one had ever ridden it before and it was given to me!! My previous bike was bought used but my dad stripped it down, painted it red, put on a new seat and grips and I was more than thrilled. Loved that bike, but this one.... OMG. It was actually too big for me, I could hardly touch the pedals but OMG.... I remember not wanting to give up the red one but I loved that touring bike and rode it for years!

BTW, I love anything with wheels... skates, scooters, bikes, cars, anything, still do!

After working all day, DS was in a basement cabinet shop

making a copy of a floor to almost ceiling set of circa 1820 shelves I fell in love with in a shop.

He started with antique wood and plained it smooth to work with it.

The entire process took two years!

The personalized white bible I received from my aunt and uncle when I was 7. I carried it on my wedding day 48 years ago today.

That was my favorite game! We played it until it fell apart too!
