How Is Your Life Different Since Thanksgiving 2019?

For us, we are staying closer to home, picking up groceries (which I actually love now), eating better since we aren't eating out all the time, and more quiet time.

Being older, our crowd has aged and we don't have the people we always had dinner out with. We haven't taken long road trips, and health issues have cropped up as well. And also dealing with increasing prices is a factor.

We hardly ever have the television on, we read more and we exercise less. Only spam and appointment reminders ring the phone.

Life is slower, better in many ways, and drastically different in three short years.

Nothing has changed. We are doing the same stuff as before. Pandemic or no pandemic it never stopped us from going out and doing what we wanted to do.

Thanksgiving was always my favorite holiday. It was the one holiday that all our extended families were together.

However, Thanksgiving is now a little difficult. Mom died on Thanksgiving 5 years ago. I miss her so much.

We are all thrilled to have Dad with us, soon to be 91 and still living in his home. I want to be like him if I make it that long.

My mother died January 2020, she was in a rehab center during Thanksgiving 2019. We were so close, my life hasn't been the same since she passed.

Pretty much the same for me. Still do all the same things. I'm pretty much a homebody, but even during the shutdown we went out to places that were open like Home Depot/Lowes, the grocery store, etc. We did pickup at our local restaurants and started dining inside as soon as they opened up to do so. Was back in church as soon as it opened back up for worship. Still did our yearly ski trip and have one booked for 2023. Our Thanksgiving and Christmas was the same throughout.

Probably the biggest change for me is I'm trying to learn how to shop online for clothing, but that's only because the stores I normally shopped at just don't have merchandise I want. But, that also seems to be the case at a lot of online retailers too. Oversized and slouchy seems to be everywhere. Sizing is such an issue for me and I hate returning things even when it's easy to do so.

OMG---for me---a 360* change!!! 2019 seems like eons ago---went thru a major house repair after a tree fell on and destroyed the 2nd story of my house at the end of 2018--and I was in the room where the tree hit and should have died as it fell within inches of where I was standing----so there was a year of repair and moving in and out of rentals---then the pandemic hit and then, my now ex-spouse decided he was done with our marriage of 47 years and I went thru a year and 1/2 of that nonsense-- all of 2021 and into 2022-- Sold my house because of divorce, and moved into an apt with my DD in 2021---and THEN....the real kick in the teeth--I tripped and fell, broke my ankle this past Oct and am in a wheelchair for now!!! What I am being punished for----I don't know!!!

We lost my dad in 2021, he was the last of our parents...so it seems a little strange to be "orphans". Otherwise, our big change has been being mostly retired..."mostly" because my DH still has one project to oversee that should be finished next spring/summer. It's just a site visit one day a week for him, and the accompanying paperwork for me...just 1 or two hours a week.

Of course the price of everything is a very big change! Somehow I always knew that when we retired that the country would be in a financial mess.

Have become much more comfortable staying at home and not partaking in activities that I did pre-2019. We still travel and eat out but do not miss getting together with others. Haven't watched the news in 2 1/2 years. Read the Times and Tribune on line; reading more; knitting more.

Thanksgiving was never a big deal with us--I give thanks every day and do not need a reason to pig out!!-- so no difference there.

Well, my husband passed away for one. So, no more family dinners in his family.

Thanksgiving this year will be a quiet one for me.

Thanksgiving this year will be a return to normal for me. During the pandemic the annual trip to New Hampshire for dinner and an overnight with my sister and BIL was a no -go.

We are back to tradition this year and I am so looking forward to it!!

The day after the holiday, three of my other sisters ( I have 7!) come up in the morning and we go out for breakfast and travel around to various little country gift stores and artist/crafter retail sites. When we return, it is coffee and pie before we all get in the car to head home. My mom always came up with me before she passed in 2015, and she is still missed every year. (Every day!) My condolences to those of you who have just experienced the loss of your mom or dad. While it is a very big blow and a deep sorrow, as you gather at the table be sure to be thankful for the gift they were to you and for the good amount of time you had them in your life. I had friends who lost their parents in their teens and twenties. I had mom until my early 60s! I was indeed lucky.

Whether your Thanksgiving is radically different or a continuing tradition, I hope that all the great folks on these boards are safe and healthy, and get to share food and love with their familes and thanks and love with God.

We are grieving with those of you who have had losses - one way or another! My DH lost his one & only brother, but not for c19 reasons. So life in that regard has taken a bit of a turn.

But our family hasn't done things any differently. We all still got together and managed to stay healthy. TTL!

The biggest change for me has been in college teaching, though I've been teaching on-line for longer than 2019. It's all taken a toll on the students, though.

We've never changed any of our plans. Pandemic or no pandemic. We were the only ones still celebrating together during ths nightmare. No one ever got sick. So glad we didn't let this nonsense bother us.

Since Thanksgiving 2019 my son, my mom, and dog passed away. The grief is overwhelming at times, but I am thankful to have my husband and twin to son who passed away.
