Any magazines for 15 yr old girl interested in make-up, fashion, etc.

I'm hoping someone who has more contact with this age group can help me. I'd like to find magazines dealing with make-up and fashion that are appropriate for a 15 yr old girl.

I know many of these girls access this info online through tutorials on youtube and other sources but the goal here is to encourage her to read. Since this is a high-interest topic for her, we're hoping she'll read the descriptions along with viewing the pictures and not consider it a chore. Lots of pictures are fine. Just wanting there to be brief descriptions, too. TIA

If you care about this person, you will not get her into magazines. They are so unhealthy (body image...).

Instead, a healthy option is the Dressing Your Truth blog by Carol Tuttle. It teaches makeup and fashion but emphasizes that each person is beautiful regardless of features, age, etc. You can opt to buy her a membership that gets her more content as well as style guides and personal shopping suggestions.

@Kalli Seventeen magazine is a great magazine for teenage girls. That's if it's still being published. A lot of magazines are no longer published physically, only digitally. It's been around forever. I had a subscription to it, I bought my daughter a subscription to it and when I worked at B&N we sold a lot of it. It was full of fashion, makeup tips and good articles for that age group.

Why not have her concentrate on her own likes and dislikes. Let her "build" or curate her personal style through trial and error @Kalli .

@Kalli There never was much in the way of magazines for teen girls except Seventeen which is apparently gone. Nowdays all teen life centers on internet social media.

As a former reading tutor, I understand the problem. Someone who is a poor reader will avoid books and/or the library. You have to entice them with something they're interested in. So I see what she's trying to do, I just don't know what's available for 15yr. old girls these days.

@Kalliconsider your local library. There must be some sections that will give some history on fashion maybe talk about textiles and where they come from. New technologies in textiles.

If she's serious tell her to consider coming to my fair City to attend Parson's School of Design or the Fashion Institute of Technology. the FIT is a State University of New York School.

There are so many career paths in fashion. Not just design......

Is Teen Vogue still pubished? So many magazines are only available online. And if you can find one with a subscription it's usually digital anymore. I would fear that any physical magazine subscription could end suddenly and not fulfil your subscription.

Your best bet may be in exploring actual books on the subject. I would think there may be many teen idol, and celebrities that have published something about their fashion and beauty interest.

The ones I got for my granddaughter was GIRLS LIFE or GIRLS WORLD ..she seemed to like them.

i loved 17 as a teen, and 'TEEN magazine and Glamour, Mademoiselle.

Indeed. I agree. If you don't read you won't learn anything. I was always taught that and it happens to be true. That is one way of helping to develop the love of reading too.

Exposure to varied stimuli as well. Culture, sports, entertainment, the Arts, Fine and Performing, Language. Throw it all at a teen and see what sticks!

Good points @shoesnbags and any amount of time expended on a fifteen year old to help them with along with what they enjoy is worth it.

Teen Vogue and Seventeen but some of the articles are quite mature. There are many magazines listed on Google. If she has a tablet, some of the magazines are on line, it doesn't matter what form she reads as long as she reads is what I'm understanding.

There are also books on Amazon about makeup that might work. There's one looks interesting,

Makeup Practice Book for Teens: Basic Face Charts For Makeup Application Practice

@Kalli Besides the library, check out Barns & Nobles in person if there is one in your hood. There is a fashion section. At least there is one at the B&N in my hood.

LOTS of suggestions

As an educational psychologist I can tell you that its a great idea to find any high interest reading material to build interest and boost confidence, Plenty of time for War and eace lol. The goal is to read read read. Once she gains confidence, she can pursue other reading material of interest to supplement required reading.

You might also google high interest low ability books for teenage girls for other suggestions. I think a magazine subscription is a thoughtful choice!! Good luck!

She's 15, you can't encourage her to read at that age. Also, there isn't much reading in magazines now, it's all ads and promotions. If she's interested in makeup, magazines can't even begin to complete with YouTube, Tic Tok and Instagram. I don't know what your goal is but the door has closed on instilling a love of reading into a 15 year old. If she wants to strengthen her reading skills, her parents should address that with her school. There might be some reading resources available to her.
