First Christmas Lights Looking Drive Last Night!

We had fun last night driving around the 'hood last night looking at Christmas lights. We saw quite a few--it was worth the drive and we had a good time.

Quite a few houses are up and running already.

Personally, I don't want to see Christmas decor, lights or otherwise until after Thanksgiving. Really don't like how every season is rushed nowadays.

We enjoy doing that, too. It's a nice, quiet way to spend part of an evening. Sometimes, we'll go through McD's drive-thru and get a Coke or chocolate shake to drink while we're driving around.

No lights in my hood, yet. I am thinking of getting my Christmas tree up before TG. It's a lot of work not to enjoy it for as long as possible.

I enjoy early decorations, inside and out. The older I get, the last quarter of every year passes far too fast for me.

Blink and it's NY. Then the drudgery of having to take it all down.

Why not? Why put them up and go to all that trouble for 3 weeks?

The stores are decorated. I will light up my home this weekend. For the past couple of weeks, I have been too busy with some other things to do the necessary cleaning and removing the decorations out of storage, and boxing up the regular decor to put those things into storage. Even for a small home that's a lot of work. Not complaining because I love doing it, but I do have to select a day when I can dedicate a few hours to the task.

@Sooner , we had a lovely day last week to get the outdoor lights up. We do two 15' blue spruce trees that flank our circular drive. We need a ladder to do those. The lights won't go on until Dec 1. LM

No lights yet here in my CT town...and that's fine with me. I too don't love to blur and rush all the seasons together!

Still enjoying what's left of foliage and fall. Does not feel at all like Christmas to me...which comes....in.....December. So yea...bah humbug me all you want...that's my story and I'm sticking to it.🤷‍♀️

I'm still enjoying the milder temps we've had, the leaves still golden & falling...🍁🌞🍂 and even my summer annuals, still beautiful on my deck.

All that said...our neighboring town, which, in 2020 (to cheer everyone up that dismal year), started decorating all the trees that line the main streets through town, with white twinkle lights...and those have gone up. They've doubled the amount of trees done this year. It doesn't scream Christmas, but does seem like "Stars Hollow" (Gilmore Girls reference) when you drive through...so it is happy, cheerful and "magical" without being so "Christmas", yet. (Of course...the town library DID put up some red and green...that seemed off to me, but whatever.)

I have seen a few decorations out but not many. We had a few really unseasonly warm days recently and that may be part of the reason. I personally don't do any decorating inside or out until the day after Thanksgiving.

My take on it is people schedule these lights to be put up which they have to early or it doesn't get done, so why not light them up. What's bad about a beautiful light display? I think we can use all the happy we can get.

I haven't noticed any lights on houses in my hood but I do know that several people have told me they're anxious to get started decorating. I think the really nice weather we had this week made people want to do it now rather than later when the temps are much colder.

We have a beautification committee in our town and they've started putting up various lights and decorations around the square. They are beautiful and I've really enjoyed them! I don't care that they're up before Thanksgiving. I'm very thankful for lots of things but Christmas is much more important to me.

Ah, sounds cool. I can't wait to see some Christmas decorations. In my area I haven't seen lights other than Fall lights for Halloween, orange, purple or white. I did set up my Christmas tree and LOVE it. But, I usually do that the weekend before Thanksgiving but I purchased the TSV tree and wanted to make sure it worked. BTW, it is awesome. So easy to set up and so many functions. I let it stay on for two days before going out of town. I will decorate and put out all my other decorations the weekend before Thanksgiving. Takes me 3 full days to transform my house so I like to enjoy it as long as possible.

We were on vacation the last week of October.

We passed a commercial building that had a LARGE wreath on the building. I can't help but think the wreath was custom made. It fit perfectly between the windows of the 3 story building. And it looked brand new. It caught your eye and looked so nice.

Whoever designed/made the wreath did quite an impressive job. It was worth putting up early.

Everyone in our neighborhood has Thanksgiving decorations out. So we will have to wait until Thanksgiving is over for the Christmas decorations. But eveyone seems to do a nice job.

It was really warm out last weekend...in the 60s & 70s. I suggested to DH that he and DS should put up the outside lights. They said it's too early but I mentioned that they don't have to turn them on except to test out until after Thanksgiving....did they listen to me? Of course not!
