Evgeni Plushenko, Russian Figure Skater

I tried to reply to kittykatkay's thread on the figure skater, but the thread was poofed as I hit the submit button. The GIF in kittykatkay's post was part of a routine from the World Championship 2004 competition where Evgeni's costume allowed him to go from a male character to a female character. thanks for the explanation celery!.....used to love watching him skate.....he plans on being a part of the russian team for the upcoming olympics in sochi as long as he remains healthy.

Yes, it was a comedic routine. Russians have a different sense of humor, and Plushenko has done many skating routines that are meant to be funny.

I had hoped Evan Lysacek would be able to skate in the Sochi Olympics this year. He's marvelous and I love to watch his wonderful artistry. However, he announced that he will not defend his crown due to a torn labrum in his left hip. Evan won the gold medal in men's singles figure skating at the 2010 winter Olympics.

I, too, tried to post on the other thread and wonder why it was removed???

US Figure Skating Championships are being held this week. Our national Champ, Ashley Wagner is currently in 4th place after the short program. Much of the finals will be on NBC this weekend.

Hi Celery.....my thread got "poofed" cause I used a word in the title that rhymes like Sam, only starts with a "D"...webbie didn't like it. But, everyone was very respectful, funny and knowledgable on the thread, so I'm happy.

Thanks for starting another one. Cause I love skating. He is funny though, just like Johnny Weir, whom I love to watch.

He has always had creative free skates in the shows in which he participates, and he is a driven competitor. I've just never really warmed up to him because he's been known to have a real attitude, even with his fellow team mates. However, I admire his skills and athleticism. Did any of you see him in one of the Olympics after shows wearing the bare chested muscle man add on to this costume. He kept striking the weight lifter poses. It was hilarious.

Ice Dancing started today. Our champs were superb.

The men begin tonight. This field is really a toss-up.
