GOT HEATING OIL YESTERDAY

The Oil Man came yesterday afternoon and filled the tank. It was $5.50per gallon!!!!

I live in MA but get my oil from RI 'cause they've always been the cheapest around. All I can say is I hope and pray it's gonna be a mild winter.....

OMG, I have friends recently that got oil and it was over $5.00 a gal. That was about 3 weeks ago.We're in Pa. I have natural gas and I know that's gone up, also. Haven't really gotten a bill since putting the heat on. I think I saw on Fox Business that it will go up about 28%. I'm sure I'll have sticker shock, too. I guess we all need to bundle up and set the themostat back, though I keep mine around 68.

Just a stupid question. I live in the southwest and we have an electric heat pump. How much is oil usually? Do you fill up a tank with oil and light some kind of fuse like gas heat? Don't mean to be stupid but I've never had anything's other than an electric heat pump and A/C.

I do not understand a heating oil system either. Any explanations for how they operate would be appreciated.

@Meowingkitty , @On It - we have a furnace and an oil tank. All I do is put the switch on and the oil tank fuels the furnace (oil burner) which heats the radiators.

The price per gallon is waay higher right now than ever! The prices vary every season, but this year it's already out of the normal range. To 'add fuel to the fire', they're saying now that there'll be a shortage in New England and it might have to be rationed. Not a good situation.

@SunnysMom, don't be discouraged. I think more and more people are twigging to these horrendous oil and fuel deficits, accurately. If they weren't, you wouldn't see the growing, furious upswing in media attempts to obscure and deflect.

@eddyandme Thank you for the explanation. I look at real estate all over the country. I know I have seen the radiators in houses and the furnace in basements. Now I believe I have successfully connected the dots.

I hope the shortage is a false alarm and that you have a safe, warm winter inside your home.

I don't have an opinion one way or another regarding the price or availability of oil, but want to thank you for adding a term to my vocabulary. I looked up the meaning of "twigging", had never heard it used before.

I work in financial services.

Research the term "excess savings". It's an eye opener.

It is true that Exxon and Shell enjoyed record profits the first 6 mos of this year. More than 2008. Heating oil is a close cousin of diesel fuel. There is the cost factor.

They actually had a net profit of $4 billion and paid out dividends to stock holders. They didn't make nearly as much as the year before or the record profits they are making now but they didn't lose money.

I have outside tank and use kerosene.Locked in at $5.58 per gallon. Pay monthly budget amount eith my fuel company. Hear some model saying New England is suppose to see milder temperatures this winter

Everyone needs to get out their extra blankets. I saw on the news this morning they are considering releasing heating oil from the reserves. I just don't get it. We are going to be in dire situations if they keep dipping into the reserves.

We use natural gas for heating and our last bill was $30...we just turned on the heat two weeks ago, so I will be sitting down when we get our next bill. I hope it only goes up 28% as they have predicted. Everyone will be paying more to stay warm this winter.
