No it not a national holiday ( or should I say Federal holiday that gets days off) and I never had the holiday off nor my son or grandchildren who are in school now.

@SharkE I haven't heard that it is. I'd find it odd if it were. Our schools just had their fall break. Is it possible that the schools in your area are having theirs later and Halloween just happens to fall during it?

I'm in a Next Door Neighbor blog and somebody said

"I know the schools are closed Mon". I go to self

"huh, what holiday is Monday" I check and it's Halloween

she must be confused or something.

Surely, we haven't sunk that low.....

My goodness.....we just had Indiginous People's day earlier this month, and Veteran's Day coming up in November. Surely they wouldn't add another holiday inbetween??? Besides.....Halloween, a holiday????? Why. I wonder, would that even be considered to be "holiday worthy"? JMHO.

Not that I am aware of. That has always been the day for school parties as I remember. Growing up, one of the "perks" of going to a parochial school was getting the day after Halloween off for "All Saints Day".

I've heard in some areas, certain religious groups object to Halloween festivities, parties, costumes in schools. Perhaps they're closing to avoid the controversy? If parents keep their kids home, the schools lose funding so they might as well close for the day.

My child's district isn't off for Veterans Day. They have election day off though.

@SharkE No day off for Easter in our school system as it falls on a Sunday and they are already off.

Halloween is not a holiday.

When I was a kid, Easter was never a holiday (Sunday) and Easter week only off if it happened to coincide with spring break.
