The Reporters In Florida

While I am glad to know what is going on in Florida and appreciate the reporters on the ground I wonder about them sometimes.

A male reporter was at a gas station that had a lot of damage. He was warning folks about sightseeing and to be careful of certain areas. He proceeded to point out loose wires near the pumps. Ah, he might want to move in case something sparks. He needed to take his own advice.

A woman in knee high rubber boots was standing in a decent amount of water. Question, there isn't a body of H2o in Fl. without alligators, their canals, ponds and lakes are overflowing into the streets. Where are the alligators? Also, another reporter warned people about walking in high water, you don't know what you might step on and then also mentioned snakes.

I hope they are all well paid.

While any body of water COULD have alligators and snakes, there are some that do not. It is not like they are everywhere all the time. I lived here two years before ever seeing an alligator. I think it would be very unual for one to just swim down a flooded street. It could happen of course, but I would think it unlikely.

I think the reporters are doing a good job The Governor and his team have their work cut out for them and they are doing an excellent job. The devastation is heartbreaking, my thoughts are with those who have experienced a loss and those responding to the needs of the people.

@CrazyKittyLvr2 Just because any body of water in Florida can have a snake or alligator...does not mean they all do!

They are not everywhere, like some portray! Very rare to see an alligator in the wild.

@CrazyKittyLvr2 @There are tons of snakes too, especially water moccasins. Plenty of chemicals and sewage in the water too. The news reporters take many risks to give us their reports. Last night, a reporter from the weather channel was standing in the road in the hurricane winds when a tree branch with lots of leaves on it blew right into him during his report.

lol. Let's say I would not be trucking through waist deep water in Fl. right now. There are supposedly 1.3 million gators in Fl. With all that water those suckers are somewhere. Water mocassins, nope, just nope.

The scenes from Fl. are just mindboggling.

@Zhills ...However, during such a devastating hurricane such as this, I would think that there is more risk that alligators, etc. would end up in the water throughout the streets?...I never really thought of this until I saw this thread.

I'm with you CrazyKittyLvr2, I hope they are well paid. I have wondered what's in the water as well. There was a reporter wearing a crash helmet on the news last night. And this poor guy trying to do his job with some clown mugging in the shot.

Yea, watching some of Jim Cantoree last night on weather channel, he was in and out of a parking garage .Suddenlyy he was walking backwards when a car came out of the blue .

a few yrs ago while watching coverage of Hurricane Harvey was a devastating Category 4 hurricane that made landfall on Texas and Louisiana in August 2017, causing catastrophic flooding and more than 100 deaths. A woman near Houston captured on film of 2 alligators swimming in her yard.

I get nervous when our local news people are out in snow/ice storms. Sometimes they are close to the road which are slippery. One car slides out of control and well, reporter gets hit on live feed.

I understand the need and want to know what is going on, but reporters and others taking unnecessary risks is just downright dangerous and ignorant. I saw a woman in one area walking around with a man and she was going to her home which was pretty well done for. They gained entrance and it was a mess and I felt so bad for her. However, I did not think it was a wise thing to do. They both put themselves in danger as thet had no idea what they were stepping on or into or what could fall on them, etc.

My heart is just so heavy for everyone going through this terrible event. I hope everyone is keeping them in their thoughts and prayers.

I have to agree! I think some of them are crazy for hanging out in terribly high winds just to make a point. I don't know why they do this. We get it....the weather is dangerous so they should go inside too.

Plus one should be aware of the snakes and alligoators swimming in all of the flooding water!

@Puppy Lips I don't know when you lived in Fl, but I can remember when alligators were considered endangered. They became protected and then somehow their population exploded!

That happened with deer around here in southeastern, PA. When I first moved here I never saw deer but over the years their population exploded and now during the fall I will see deer....sometimes many... everyday!

Yes not every single body of water in Florida will have alligators & snakes but one should always be aware just in case.

It is a real possibility, and people are warned after a storm like this. It doesn’t matter what body of water contains alligators. The water is rushing, and these undesirables are transported right along with it. I would not be treading through that water.

I am always perplexed by the reporters on scene. They stand outside doing the newscast in torrential rain, and battering winds, while dodging projectiles. What is the purpose? We get it the storm is destructive. I’ve seen a few knocked over by waves and thrashing around trying to get up. Very scary!

There is another side as well. There have also been a few reporters exaggerating the conditions too. I’m sure you can find the videos.

I saw a list of hazards in the water. It included bear. It did not occur to me that bear are that numerous.
