I didn’t see the thread in question, but I do understand how painful it is to read about animal abuse. Heaven knows, in my quest not to participate in animal abuse, I’ve read enough to cause tears to flow; and it's not because I'm insensitive or handle it well, because I don't.

What I don’t understand is how anyone expects to stop animal abuse practices if they don’t want to hear or learn about it. Is it because they’d rather turn a deaf ear and/or a blind eye so they can continue to buy down products, angora products, etc., and not feel guilty about it?

If a person loves animals, how can they not want to know how to help them, no matter how painful it may be to learn what happens? Is protecting yourself from the horrible facts more important than helping to protect animals from the horrible practices?

I WANT to know, no matter how much it distresses me. If the animal is forced to be subjected to these horrors, then I can force myself to learn and educate myself by reading or listening, no matter how painful it is to me. If you read about it JUST ONCE, you’ll know and never have to read about it again; because you'll know what you need to do to help. The more people that know, the better chance there is of putting an end to it, by not buying the products, by signing petitions, etc. Otherwise, ignorance towards these practices will just allow them to continue. That’s my take on the situation.

Which is better? Being shocked or distressed for a few minutes and then doing what you can to help the practices to stop? Or not opening a thread to save yourself but sacrifice all the animals that are treated so inhumanely because you don't want to know about it?

Thanks everyone for understanding where I'm coming from. It's difficult - - EXTREMELY DIFFICULT - - to learn what's going on. I'm not trying to make light of that fact. But if we keep ourselves in the dark because we don't want to tolerate the pain of learning, then the animals will never be freed from the pain THEY'RE enduring. They have no voice. WE have to be their voice.

FlirtyFilly, there are people like myself who already know the horrors of animal abuse. I am not uneducated about it. I am not trying to hide from the truth, or ignore it, or bury my head in the sand. I contribute very generously to animal organizations whose mission it is to end animal abuse.

I simply started a thread to remind others to please not put graphic details that might lead one to be upset when just reading the title. A simple "Warning - Graphic or Sensitive Content About Animals" would have sufficed. Or a title, "Please Do Not Open If You Are Sensitive About Animal Abuse" would have also served the purpose without divulging details in the title. This request goes for any sensitive topics that might involve horrific events to people or places. I'm just asking posters to try to be sensitive when wording the titles that everyone must see. I do not think that's asking too much.

I unsubscribed to a UK animal charity many years ago (when I lived there) because they were forever sending me graphic pamphlets with pictures and stories about all kinds of animal abuse. I was happy to support them with donations, but I already knew there was abuse out there and didn't need it stuck in my face every week.

I agree with Topaz and others, that graphic details should not be in thread titles. Apparently webbie feels the same way. I didn't see the earlier thread that caused the commotion; I'm on the west coast and it was gone by the time I got online today.

I think PETA does wonderful work, but I cannot look at the pamphlets they send out. The photographs are so horrific that it upsets me to the point where I'm fighting back tears. I am thrilled that there are those who can not only handle the graphic details of the abuse, but can actively work to end it. I will send them my money, but I cannot hear about their day-to-day activities. It's just too upsetting.

I can't believe that some posters are so cold and indifferent to the feelings of others that they cannot understand why someone would make this simple request.

Well said flirtyfilly.

As I see it we already have webbie controlling our threads, I bristle at a fellow poster doing the same. Deciding what I can and can not read because they find certain words too harsh.

The importance of the topic was lost because of this and then ultimately poofed. But yet courtesy to the poster seems more important then the safety of innocent animals.

I do not think that's asking too much.

I guess from my viewpoint, focksie, I've already learned most of what's going on out there and can't be shocked by a thread title that tells me what I already know. It still angers and upsets me more than I can say, but it no longer shocks me. For the mostpart, I think posters try to do the best they can to prevent offending other posters with a thread title. What may be a slip-up to some is not to others, and I think it may sometimes be hard to determine how a certain topic should be worded or will be received. We try. Hope you're feeling better.

Perhaps you are fortunate to have become inured to graphic text or images regarding animals. I have not. Like Clover29 said, I just don't need it stuck in my face. How many times have I heard posters here complain about that all too familiar commercial ("Angel"). Only the most hardened heart would not shed a tear after watching that. I still cannot watch it and if my remote is handy, it is quickly clicked or else I get up and walk out of the room.

Again, not blaming. Just reminding.

I feel fine, thank you.

If I had become as INURED to it as you seem to have taken from my post, I wouldn't be fighting so hard to stop it. Nor would I shed tears and reach the point of nausea that I do. I fight my feelings right through the tears so that I can continue to fight the abuse. The ASPCA ads on tv make me bawl, no matter how often I see them. It isn't any easier for me than it is for others.

Wow. People just can't display common courtesy, they're more interested in winning the argument. Very sad.

But yet courtesy to the poster seems more important then the safety of innocent animals.

Caravaggio, I'd like to ask you this. Have you entertained the idea that the Webmaster may have deleted that thread on his/her own without my input? How about multiple posters reporting that thread "Inappropriate" causing its deletion?

There is nothing more important to me than the safety of innocent animals. You are making my simple request much more of a drama than it need be.

The poster did NOT have anything graphic in her topic line. It was stating about Down. She did not provide graphic details at ALL in the topic line.

It was obvious what the topic was about - therefore it was up to each individual on whether or not not they watned to open it.

To actually WRITE or HAVE TO..DO NOT OPEN if you are sensitive is a bit over the top. It was QUITE clear what the topic was about..and you didn't need to read after that..

We need to put those big girl panties on and pull them ALL the way up. The poster was NOT graphic and it was quite clear what the topic was about.
