Help with fruit flies

Hello Friends!

I have a friend that had a medical emergency and left home without putting food away. She is fine but she has been gone for a few days. I went ovet to her house to get it ready for her to come home and discovered she has those little bugs. I think they are called fruil flies. I am not sure. I have cleaned her kitchen and discared all of the food. What do i do to get rid of these pesky bugs. That will not make for a great welcome home with those things flying around. Thanks!!

Pour boiling water down the sink drains, since this is where they hatch from.

They are readily available at my Walmart and grocery stores.

I had those a year ago and just couldn't get rid of them. Finally I found a few potatoes in a bag in the washroom that I had forgotten about. That was their food source. Don't leave any produce out in the open. They even got into a loaf of bread. After I locked down all the food they disappeared.

Cheap and easy thing is to fill a small glass with about 2 oz of apple cider vinegar and two drops of dishwashing soap. Keep it on the kitchen counter and it will attract the flies. They will get in the glass and drown.

@Franklinbell I got this on HSN and it will get rid of them. I tried everything with no luck until I got this. I put a few paper towes on the table under this and within a few days most gone. Amazon also has this and similar.

Question for anyone ........

We've had some problems with fruit fly-type bugs that bite. NO food out and supercareful about food prep, but we can't figure out where the heck they are coming from!

Does anyone have any experience ... or theories about these biting bugs?

That sounds like biting gnats or biting midges, which are tiny flies and are attracted to any type of fly trap.

My friendly advice if you think they're still not leaving after doing the suggestions above- be sure to thoroughly check for food everywhere,

One time my husband's 90 year old grandmother had a real problem with fruit flies at her house, and we did everything we could think of to help her get rid of them. Then one day I happened to check her kitchen cabinets and reached in and turned the built in lazy susan in the corner of the cabinet and found that she had put a large bunch of bananas in there and forgot them. (Well, I think they were bananas, though by the time I found them they were little black shriveled pointy things LOL). Yuck! Got rid of those and voila, no more fruit flies.

@Scooby Doo i cleaned all surfaces and threw out everything I could find that was sitting out. Those things are pesky! The good news my friend is gonna be fine and will be home soon! Thanks for your idea. I can try that one tonight! I think she has apple cider vinegar.

Wrigleys Speriment gum, unchewed, lol. Leave opened sticks in cupboard or area. Also, I had such a problem I got peppermint oil from Amazon, put on cotton ball or added to gum and they were gone by end of day

I think someone mentioned checking & flushing the drains really good.

Very important because who knows what little specks might be down there.

Especially important if she has a garbage disposal.

Ever since we moved on the lake we have fruit flies in the Fall. I'm fighting them now. Years ago I purchased, from Amazon, a set of fruitfly traps. All's I do is put a little apple cider vinegar in. They crawl in and cannot get out and eventually drown.

yes, clean up whatever is attracting the bugs. The vinegar treatment truly works. The son of a friend of mine is one of the country's leading fruit fly experts. Seriously. I asked him what we could do in our homes to control them. He said the vinegar trick is the best. In my own home I have also noticed that they disappear if I have the AC on.
