!/2 Mile, What A Difference

We had a storm yesterday afternoon and got buckets of rain. No major thunder, lightening or wind.

I went out awhile ago and holy cow, just a 1/2 mile away branches and limbs in the road. A huge pine tree fell over and was resting against a neighbor's house. The ground pulled out at the trunk must be 20 ft. in diameter. There is another tree across power lines.

It must have been a narrow section of straight line winds.

My friend who lives down there said her 30 yr. old lilac tree/bush was pulled out at the base. She said trees were bent sideways, she headed to her basement.

This end of the road dodged a bullet.

I find the results of wind, even relatively mild wind, fascinating. I've had a heavy chair on my deck moved by the wind but an empty cardboard box a foot from it in place. There have been many instances of such occurrences that leaving me scratching my head in wonder.

@CrazyKittyLvr2 It sounds like maybe a microburst of winds. Those happen a lot when storms are collapsing.

Scary isn't it? We are in a "storm alley" and you never know how your severity will be as to those just a 1/2 mile away. Sometimes you can see the heavy part of the storm going just beyond you.

Back in 1999, I think, we had an F1 tornado. It hit the beginning of our road 2 miles away, come down along the road and went around the hill behind our house.

Folks 2 miles away had a glass top patio table. The glass top ended up in a pine tree in their yard....unbroken.

I didn't even have a bent geranium.

We seem to be having some really nasty winds a lot more lately. That scares me more than lightning.
