Am I Too Paranoid

Unfortunately in this day and age I always think everything is a scam, I don't trust anyone and anything, I hate that I live like this. Anyway I signed up with Verizon for my internet and phone two months ago and got an email that looks very official from Verizon. It mentions a reward I earned and there is a code to enter to claim my reward. I have gotten a Visa gift card from them before but I think they just sent it to me. I'm going to call Verizon tomorrow since I don't have time to hold on the line now and ask if this is legitimate.

You should always mouse over the email address to see if these types of emails are legit.

Always assume unsolicited emails are a scam.

Do an internet search for Verizon scams.

Go directly to their website and check.

It's likely a scam.

If Verizon was sending you a gift card, they would just send it to you. I would never click anything in an email like that.

I don't think you're being paranoid at all. You have good reason to be wary of unsolicited emails this day and age. I've never received a legitimate email offering me free "stuff". Scammers are definitely becoming more calculating by sending email that look like they're from institutions you already do business with. They almost fooled me just last week.

I get both E-mails & Texts from Verizon, but they're not giving me anything, just an offer if I want to buy a new phone or some other "deal". I rarely ever even open them.

Remember what Archie Bunker said,"I'm not paranoid, it's just everybody is out to get me." Just kidding. One time we got a call sorta like yours and Hubbs called the company they said they were. They weren't and he got a big thank you for asking.

Speaking of paranoid, with these Ring doorbell cameras everyone seems to have in the suburbs, all a kid has to do is walk down the street wearing a hoodie and the whole neighborhood is on high alert. The NextDoor app lights up as word goes out of the "suspicious character" casing the area. It's really quite funny to see imaginations work overtime. Too many housewives and retirees with too much time on their hands.

Legit offers shouldn't be presented in such a way as to make the consumer question.

I do not think that you are being paranoid. A healthy dose of skepticism regarding scamming is a good thing. It will serve you well, especially in this day and age, and as we get older we are more of a target.

You are exactly right to be a skeptic. These days, you can't trust anyone or anything. Don't know how we got to this point, but I don't suppose there's any going back.

Yeah, it might be "imaginations working overtime" until those same Ring cameras are recording all the brazen thug porch pirates who are making a business of stealing our Amazon, QVC and all other purchases EVERY.DAM.DAY. (Sorry, I just get so irate that this has been going on for 2+ years with no end in sight.)

I have gotten two different emails, one supposedly from DHL the other one I forget. They both tell me my package has been suspended and want me to click on a link to track my packages. Only thing is, I'm not expecting any packages and thank you very much I can track my own packages!

@Jordan2 not paranoid, so many scams. I get at least 10 a day in my junk mail. CVS, Home Depot, Lowe’s, Walmart, USPS, DHL, FedExpress, Netflix. No Netflix, no DHL, no Fedex account.

Get your package that’s missing. Anything I buy, I can and do track. delete them all.

I think it is never a bad idea to be aware of what is going on in your neighborhood. We live on a cul-de-sac and it is rare to see someone walking down our street unless they are a neighbor. Sometimes they are a solicitor so I just ignore them.
