I was wondering if anyone has ever put up items for sale on Ebay, what exactly does it entail? I have an Erica Kane Barbie Doll, I Dream of Jeannie Barbie Doll, Cher Barbie Doll, and some other toy items (I have a Toot-a-Loop radio people of a certain age will know what I'm talking about and the dolls are in the orginal packaging never played with). A coin dealer I have dealt with will put it up on Ebay for me but take a 25% fee of what it sells for. I'm wondering if I can do it myself.

@Jordan2 You can easily do it yourself. It does take some times and effort tho. FIgure out a good sale price and if you want to do it with a fixed price auction or a regular style auction when bidders can bid up the price. You will need to take good pictures to showcase what you're selling and show details. You need to come up with a detailed description. People may have questions for you about the item, so responses take some time. When the item sells then you pack it carefully and safely and ship it to the buyer!

So really it's up to you if you want to give it a try yourself. You may decide to do it or that it's worth it to pay a little extra and have this other person do it for you .

Just thought of a question tho ...... is it 25% plus ebay's take?

I sold one thing on ebay. It was an American Girl outfit. It seemed to sell itself. It was brand new. So all I had to do was show a picture and a brief comment and it was sold.

Why not start out with an easy item, that you feel will sell well. And ease into selling. With each sale I think you will find it becomes easier.

And if not, then use the dealer. But I think you will find that you will do just fine.

I sold a lot of stuff on Ebay , mostly clothing and shoes that I had purchased from QVC . After a while the shoppers remember what you usually sell and keep coming back to see what you have . I sold lots of Quacker Factory clothing and Birkenstock shoes . I still have a lot left , I bought way too much of that stuff . It was nice to get some money back on them . What you need is an account on Ebay , shipping boxes and padded envelopes are free from the usps . Go on line to order, you'll need an account there too . Then you will need a small scale, like a kitchen scale , packing tape , l use the clear stuff , and l use white tissue paper to wrap the item in , then place it in a plastic bag, before putting it in the box or bag . You can get it mostly ready before putting it up for sale , then you know exactly what the postage will be . I usually charged the postage to the buyer. You can do actual postage to their address or just use what comes up when you weigh it . Sometimes that's not good , though , for instance, a buyer from the coast as California has a much higher shipping rate than if it were in the middle states .I just printed the postage sticker right on my printer off EBay . It's really easy . I kept my supplies in a large basket , including an iron, bags etc . I almost forgot , you have to take pictures , more is better and, make a written description including size measurements etc .

I have had very negative interactions. And I just quit. One gal did not know her address and the package came back more than once. Another time someone accused me of sending the wrong item. I kept pictures of what I sold and always added it to the package along with the actual ad. Easy to prove. All they wanted was FREE.

And then there was an item I bid on. A postcard. Something nobody else could possibly want. I was set up. A partner to the seller outbid me. At the time I did not know this until I decided to up the bid and I won. Yeah right. The person bidding aganst me was the one who mailed it to me. Easy to spot after the fact.
