DAMP RID * OFF BRANDS: WHAT IS YOUR EXPERIENCE?

I was searching on the big A site and found that there are several other brands of this same type product, but at a better price.

I wondered if anyone had tried these off brands. What was your experience? Do you get what you pay for?

Yes, Damp Rid is kind of expensive. I haven't bought it in a while but used to get it at Bed Bath & Beyond with a 20% off coupon. I haven't seen the knock-offs yet.

If you're a Costco member, they have multi packs at a decent price. I won't go without it since I discovered it! I put 1 in my basement. I use the name brand, totally worth it to me!

I tried a knock off from Dollar Store. Didn't work at all. I just buy the original Damp Rid, which works great.

I have used an off brand--local store--it did not work like Damp Rid.

I have used coupons that the hardware store or other big name stores have to purchase them. I then take the reusable containers and I have bought after that the big container of the flakes.

I will not go off brand again--in my opinion it was a waste of money.

I use the original Damp Rid which I purchase at LOWES. I don't find it too expensive for the job it does ~ I use the pucks and won't be without them : )

To be honest, I had no idea there were knock offs of this product.

I see no one answered your question. "Damp Rid" is a product that removes excess moisture from the air. It collects in a receptacle that you either empty or throw away, depending on what form of Damp Rid you buy. I used to put it in a damp closet. It was in a plastic tub that you threw away when there was no more product, just liquid. I remember it came in a hanging form, too.

Haven't bought it in years, but I remember it worked really well. (We had some plumbing work done in a bathroom that shared a wall with that closet. Voila, no more dampness.)

Well, how about that. I'm usually familiar with most products, but I've never even seen the product name nor ever seen it in a store.

Perhaps it doesn't sell well in dryer areas of the country?

@tends2dogs Big Damp Rid fan here. I have never strayed. The only other name brand I have seen is Arm & Hammer but I didn't try it. I have seen the no name brand at The Dollar Tree but I haven't tried that, either.

Looks like I will stick with the "real" DampRid. Sometimes cheaper isn't better!

I've used some off brand that I normally pick up at Wal-Mart. It works well. I have a different off brand that I picked up from Dollar General or Dollar Tree but have yet to use them.

@tends2dogs are you talking about the ones that come three in a box that hang with a hook attached to the bag? I buy these all the time at Home Depot. I have never really checked other places for a better buy.... I think they work very well.

I also buy the ones at the dollar store( now the $1.25 store) that are a container. They work well under cabinets like in the bathroom and under the sink.
