It's Hot, It's Miserable--What Makes Life Better Today?

OK, air conditioning, a given for many of us, but also Iced Tea!!! How I love iced tea on days like this!

And do you have a fan? An old-time folding fan that ladies used to carry? I have a few I collected and keep one by my chair. Even with ac going full tilt it's nice to have! One of those little blessings!

What's helping you out these scorching days?

Air-conditioning gives me headaches. So, I rely on ceiling fans, and an occasional mango smoothie!

I turned my A/C on for the first time today. Also have some fans going. It's the first heat wave of the summer here. I think I'll have myself a Yasso sea salt caramel greek yogurt bar.

My cheap-to-operate evaporative cooler has my house at about 70° and if I need more air moving, I turn on my ceiling fan. I stay in the house like it's January in Minnesota. I stepped out about noon and it was already in mid 90s and very windy, like a convection oven. Made a big salad that I'll eat for several days.

@Sooner It's 5 PM here in eastern PA and it's 91 degrees and windy. I've just watered my hanging baskets for the second time today. Been doing housework, but the AC is cranked. Echo keeps lighting up with heat advisories and air quality advisories. Like I didn't know already! I would be very unhappy if not for the AC.

What helps me with these brutal days of summer are......

A dip in the pool 🏊.

A sno cone with freshly shaved ice. 🍦

Hair up in a high pony tail. 🐎.

Even back in school, always had to have my hair

off my neck in P.E.class. Always made it hotter when

it was down. I don't know how some football players

manage with the long hair hanging out of their helmet.

Doing outdoor activities early in the morning

Socializing later in the evening

Non clingy clothes

Ambling along instead of my usual fast stride

Sunglasses

Finding shade locations BEFORE I need them

Keeping a hat in the car

Ice water in my insulated tumbler

Battery operated electric fan that I can carry in my hand

Sandals

Like @Kachina624 I treat extreme heat the way I used to treat sub zero temps in the midwest. I limit my exposure and plan ahead to try to avoid getting caught in a dangerous situation.

Shaved ice -- either a flavored snocone or a lime vodka w/lemonade

A cool shower before going to bed

Perusing real estate websites as I plan my Texit

Truthfully, not a da*ned thing. All the fans and ice cold drinks don't do diddly.

I feel like I'm going to burst into flames. Even after the sun goes down it is hot and sticky all night.

Good thread and thank you for it. What makes summer better for me (hate hot weather) is knowing in September cooler weather will come and I'll be outdoors getting fresh air and exercise. I don't do it in the hot weather.

It will be hot until October. Our ac runs from late March to October. Stay inside. It's 109 now.

@deepwaterdotter I sit with small flat frozen ice thingys against the small of my back. You can put them in small coolers or lunch boxes.

It's very hot in New England, only to get steamier tomorrow. I need central air.....it's too hot at this point in my life to live without it.
