Pasta Bowls/Dinner Bowls

Whatever you want to call them, what are you thoughts on them? I recently moved and haven't bought dishes yet. If I buy a set of dishes I'm looking at Corelle set of six servings. These bowls are quite popular now, I'm wondering if I should get a set (average size is 30 ounces for pasta, soups, cereal, stews, and stir frys). I have read this could actually take the place of a dinner plate as it is shallow and wide. Does anyone have them?

That would be one big bowl of cereal. I never liked pasta bowls. Plates work just as well. IMHO. Congratulations on your move!

I have a set of Corelle that I bought at the grocery store and I bought those shallow bowl things. I love them. I use them for salad.

I bought these at Walmart - Corelle - it was quite a while ago, but there are 4 of them and they came with a big serving bowl. We use the individual pasta bowls a lot for large salads and as serving dishes for vegetables. I don't think they would work as a dinner plate. Very happy with them.

I love pasta bowls and actually have a few sets. I use them for, besides pasta, chili, risottos and other rice dishes, and some soups. They don't replace plates for anything that requires a knife; just fork and spoon food.

@Jordan2 i have Corelle Winter Frost White. i initially puchased 16 piece set but have replenished with individual pieces and replaced cups with a different kind. You might want to check prices at Kroger. We use the bowls you mentioned often.

I'm confused. How do you serve a meal to others without plates? Is each part (main course, veggies, potato/rice/grain/pasta) of the menu placed (very gently) in one bowl?

Are there matching salad dishes or bowls? I could go on and on, but won't. LOL (Remember friends who had children who wouldn't eat food that touched other food. Don't ask. IDK anything about it! Food bowls sound like a disaster for parents of kids like that.)

Wouldn't want anyone taking a picture of that table setting.

I use much less pasta than sauce. Pasta is starch which sticks.

'in the Corelle, I have dinner plates, little plates for like rolls, these bowl things and smaller like ice cream bowls and 2 other pieces. So yes, they do make regular dinner plates also.

@BirkiLady I've read the bottoms of the bowl are very flat and wide that you could actually serve a meat, vegetable, and starch in it.

Recently, I bought some individual pasta bowls at Home Goods . I have some Dansk pasta bowls that I bought yrs ago, however my pattern was discontinued . The one I bought from Home goods are a little less deep but great for food with some sauce .

I have a set of Correll with pasta bowls and I wouldn't want to eat anything but pasta or a hearty soup out of them. Mine aren't that shallow. It would be clumsy to say, cut a piece if meat in one of them and there wouldn't be much room since the sides of the bowl and rim are unusable. It would look silly to serve cereal in them. It would get lost.

We have hardly used plates for several years now. We use flat soup bowls, coup soup bowls, pasta bowls, and jumbo cups (spode mostly) and only use plates for a few meals.

We eat a lot of rice-based Middle Eastern dishes, stir frys, pasta based meals, main-dish salads, things like barbecue meat with slaw on the side and things that lend themselves to being served in a bowl rather than chased around a plate.

We have Butterfly Meadow bowls in probably most if not all they make--two or four of each. They make some great flat and pasta bowls. Protein meals like fish, pountry and a salad and or a veggie or two are perfect for those flat bowls!

We use our pasta bowls for salads and pasta dishes, included casseroles. Hubby uses one for a piece of warm cake or pie with ice cream. I'm not talking sit-down dinners....just everyday meals! We use them a lot....

I have pasta bowls and really like them. Use for pasta or a large dinner salad. I have cereal/ice cream bowls, soup bowls, dinner and luncheon plates. I use them all and it's just me.

I purchased some bowls from another store (not sure if we can use the names of other stores or not) and they are called low bowls. We love them. Been using them for years now. We rarely use plates any longer. I think you will love using this type of bowl rather than a plate.

So the bowl in the Corelle set holds 18 ounces, the separate pasta bowl purchase from Corelle holds 20 ounces. A two ounce difference isn't much, I rather buy a set from another brand that holds 22-30 ounces.

I have bowl plates from Fiestaware. I have the dinner size and the luncheon size. We really love them. They come n all of the Fiesta colors ....check them out !

I have the Verge Low Bowls from Crate and Barrel. I use them for almost everything - pasta, salad, most of our dinners, etc.
