Childen Left in Cars To Die

Another mother left her five year old behind in her car, in the heat, for hours. Of course he died.. How is it possible for a mother to forget her child? She should be charged with negligent homicide and go to jail.

she was inside her home setting up a birthday party for her daughter. She did not check on her 5 yr old for 3 hours

Another couple left their three month old son in their car in their driveway who also died. Both happened in the last weeks.

A person might wonder how something like that could happen, but it's too common of an occurrence. It's happened on school buses, in parking lots, and in private driveways. So very tragic .

I read that this morning. Not only did the Mother not notice he wasn't around neither did the 8 yr. old sister.

It's not like the Duggars where there are 19 kids to keep track off.

That poor little guy must have been scared out of his mind.

I never had kids, so I have no idea how one could forget their kid strapped in a car seat, in the heat/sun, or even at all. But it's rather shocking how many times this seems to happen each year.

I remember one year, a while back, when there were two of these stories here locally. The circumstances were identical. The one person was just a regular nobody and was prosecuted. The other person was well known and well off, and was not prosecuted. I always felt like that spoke volumes.

You put it well. It's something I also wonder about. How does anyone "forget" they have children?

My daughter was telling me the newer cars may come out with alarms to sense when a child is left in a vehicle, sad that we need a car to help us parent. I think some of these are not accidents.

I've heard about those new precautions. Sadly, it seems like a good idea.

As to sometimes it not being an accident - I have watched real crime for many years and recall one case where the guy went to work and left the child in the car, out in the parking lot. He even went out to his car at least once, during the day, and didn't seem to know???

At any rate, he was prosecuted and I'll be darned if I recall the outcome but I think there was enough evidence to show that it was intentional and I think he was proven guilty and went to jail.

Even those who have stolen cars, when they realize a child is inside, they don't leave that child abandoned, out in the heat to die. My sympathy is not for those negligent uncaring parients, but for the unfortunate child and those who suffer infertility, and are deprived of a much desired child.

This one has me scratching my head as well. How do you not notice that one of your kids is not in the house, for several hours.

She was preparing a birthday party for the 8 year old, shouldn't that have rung a bell.

Like someone else posted it's not as if this is the Duggars and they have 20+ kids to keep track of.

In my state, she would be charged with negligent homicide and child endangerment. We get a few cases like that evert summer. Until recent years, fathers went to prison for 20 years. Mothers who did the same were given a hug, a kiss and a bushel of sympathy. Now they treat any parent or caregiver who leaves a child to roast in a hot car like a criminal.

I like the idea of putting left shoe in back with kid as reminder. I cannot judge when I don't know all facts. I do know that I can get distracted and forget things. Since we don't all have new cars, individuals need to make a system that works.

Yes. I never get it when somebody, who may be forgetful, doesn't just have a system for things that are important.

I'm not on any high horse, either. I have become SUPER forgetful. Consequently, I have systems for the important things. Seems so simple, although I cannot seem to get my husband to 'get it'. /frustration

We've discussed this here in the past and I recall somebody saying that, hey, why doesn't the person put their phone back there. That seems to be the most important thing to a lot of people so that way they won't forget the phone OR the kidlet.

He was 5 years old - I can only imagine what he was thinking and doing before he died. Equates to torture IMO.

I've heard parents should put their cell phone next to the car seat because we all know we wont go 5 minutes without it

A lot of the newer cars have a message to check your back seat before exiting the car.

A lot of these cases are intentional, IMO.
