You Said How Much For The Peaches?

I stopped at a farmer's market today and there were 6 peaches in a small basket marked "South Carolina peaches."

I am in Maryland so our peaches will not be ready until the end of July and through August so these were evidently shipped in.

When I saw the peaches were marked as being $10 for 6, I almost fell over. I am assuming they are putting the price of shipping but I cannot imagine most will be paying that much.

Hopefully, I will able to buy some when the Maryland crop is in.

My sister who lives in SC would say. Well slap my butt with butter and call me a biscuit. No Ma'am, wouldn't pay that price for peaches

I live in Georgia and have always heard of "Georgia Peaches". I have no idea what they taste like. I've seen peaches but they take so long to ripe. WHY?

Most of the time I would buy them and then forget that I have them.

I wanted to buy 4 buns for a cookout. I found a package no price on shelf went to register they were 8 dollars! I did not buy them. They were brioche buns but geez that's ridiculous. I would have passed on the peaches also.

Oh my, I love peaches but that price.......😳😳

I am waiting for the Eckert tree ripened peaches grown in Belleville Illinois. I sure hope they remain affordable.....🤞🤞🤞

@Sage04 I live in North Ga. Last week Publix had a small bag of GA peaches for arounf $3.99, maybe 8 in the package. I have no idea what the price per lb.was but I wanted them. They were delicious. South Carolina peaches are delicious also.

Another Eckert peach fan! I tell you they are just the best that I have had. I am in Central Illinois so they do not have to travel far and I hope they will be plentiful and affordable!

@Mersha They won't try to, they will have to. And yellow peaches are on the Walmart site here for $1.29 each, average price $2.58 a pound. Walmart.

@50Mickey were they ripe? I am so bad. When I buy fruit i want to be able to eat them as soon as I get home.

Was at Publix today to buy bagels only but they had pistachio 16oz buy one get one free. My sister loves them so I got her some.

I'll go back tomorrow to check the peaches. Publix is only a 5 minute drive from me. Will check the ones you mentioned.

Farm markets around here (SE PA) are universally outrageously priced. There must be a lot of people who don't mind paying a premium for "locally-grown" and "fresh-picked." But not me. I buy from stands once in a while but most of my produce comes from the supermarket.

I grew up in rural Western New York. Farm stands there were a bargain - and, surprise, their produce was good.

@Sage04 Yes they were ripe and juicy. I cut them up and put them in my cereal. You know peaches are funny if they are too ripe they spoil in a hurry. But I don't like them hard.

I heard an analyst this morning say that what we're eating now is their last year's harvest.

What happens to prices and availability next year, when they have no harvest to export?

@50Mickey now I have to go back to Publix tomorrow to get the peaches. I love the bing cherries also. Those are 6.99 a pound at Publix.
