DVDs and DVD Player

So I just moved into a new apartment a week ago ( a smaller space than I had). I took everything I thought I couldn't part with. I have a DVD player I barely used, tons of DVDs boxed sets and single some never even opened ( I thought I had to have them). Now with streaming does anyone even bother with DVDs? There are not enough hours in my lifetime to watch them. I am considering just getting rid of it all although to would pain me to do it.

I honestly never got into that hoarding of DVD's. Same with taping of TV programs. I always knew that they would be dust catches and clutter because, as you said, there are only so many hours in a day. I think we have a portable DVD player somewhere in the house and if necessary, I could use my older laptop.

I have a hoard of music CDs, VHS tapes and DVDs (of all kinds). I haven't played any of them in years but I can't seem to let go of them yet. When I feel the need then it will probably be heartbreaking to throw them out.

I don't know much about streaming. But we still buy DVD's. Mostly the new movies when they come out and some series, like the Sopranos. My husband insists on having DVD's and always having a DVD player. He told me once that it's his, he has it and doesn't have to rely on streaming, especially when it's not on anymore.

@Jordan2 I donated my DVD player and all the discs I had that weren't personal when I closed down my snowbird apartment more than a year ago. I haven't missed any of them.

I still owned an old tube TV that contained a disc player. My apartment was in a private home - lucky for me I didn't have to discard that clumsy set - landlord said his teens could use it.

BTW- I do still have my music CD collection - I listen on my Bose because the sound is better than I get from other devices on which I could find music.

@Jordan2 Your post made me laugh, let me tell you why........DH just recently donated about 200 cassette tapes, yes that's right cassette tapes!!!! (LOL) We have a store called "Savers" in our area that takes just about everything you can imagine. That place has been a Godsend for me. When we downsized we dropped off car loads over there, it's great. They sell the used merchandise very cheap. Anyway, he also has a collection of DVD's and CD's which we actually still use. He has many movies he would never part with. Same thing with the music, so we will hold on to those for sure. Good luck in your decision

I not only still have DVD's I still have and watch from time to time my VHS tapes. I have a 16" t.v. with a built in VCR so I never felt the need to throw away all those tapes I bought back in the 80's to 90's as long as they could be enjoyed. It is just me so I have plenty of room to store books, tapes, ect... I still have my almost 40 year old son's tapes and now his children watch them with me.

I have a few, prob 20 of my fave CD's---never was much into buying lots of them anyway, and I don't really listen to music anymore either, but I kept these and even bought a Bose this past Xmas to play them on, when the urge hits me--they all fit into a cd album thing----my son took the few vinyl records I had as well as cassette tapes and sold them to a music store---not for much of course.

We donate all of our books to them. They are one of the few places that will take books.

I am old school. I still have a DVD player and many DVDs. I cannot part with them. I do not stream movies. Whenever I feel nostalgic I just pop in one of my many DVD's into the DVD player and watch a movie.

I still have and use CDs, DVDs, 2 DVD players & a VCR.

I also have 100 blank CD stack.

I burn music & videos for my children & grandchildren.

I also have 100 blank DVD stack. I burn movies and make slide shows from videos & photos for friends & family (for FREE). If any of their friends want one too, I charge.

My car has a CD player. I factory ordered my car which enabled me to "customize" to add what I wanted.

I'm in my 70s and CDs are long gone ( I have audible on Amazon and use my Echo Studio). We no longer buy movies ( multiple streaming services) but last week our internet was out for 2 1/2 days(kids shot at fiber optic cable) so the two huge books of DVDs we still have came in very handy( once we remembered where we'd put them).

I like movies from the 30's/40's and some are STILL only available on VHS no DVDs and arent shown on streaming services.....so I have an "antique" TV with a built in player in my bedroom that I use to watch these old classic movies

I also have a FEW DVDS mostly selected classic movies, a lot of them Christmas classics that I want to watch when I want to see them during the Holidays. And I have a portable DVD player to view them. Most computers no longer have a DVD drive anymore either.

I was mad that Apple grabbed the Peanuts library so Im glad I have the Peanut's collection on DVDS. I dont plan to subscribe to any streaming services especially Apple.....The Peanut's Gang collection are classics that been enjoyed and passed on to generations and shouldve been left as public domain, Im glad PBS was given permission to show the Peanut's Christmas Show once but Apple will put the clamps on it one day to entice people to subscribe to their streaming service...SMH!

I also have a very small CD collection of "best of" music from some favorite singers/groups that I play on my Bose....I also do Spotify for music too...

I agree with you about not finding some movies on streaming services. I like 60's and 70's movies that I can only find on DVDs. Like another poster said if your internet shuts down you cannot watch movies. My television sometimes acts up but the DVD player is still able to work.

I cannot imagine throwing away my VHS tape of "Life With Father" with William Powell and Irene Dunn. The second son in that movie was Martin Milner. I grew up on his Adam-12.

I have sevaral DVD's, but my player no longer works. Guess I should play them on my computer. Of course, that's on it's last legs, too, and shuts down whenever it feels like it.

I still buy DVDs and I still rent them from Netflix.

I have a lot of DVDs - my favorite movies and others - why would I get rid of them?

I stream too.

I also have tons of CDs - I really miss having a CD player in my car.

Got rid of cassettes and 8 tracks (yes 8 tracks) years ago. But I still have a lot of VHS tapes. I should get rid of those. They fade eventually.

target and walmart still has DVD players for sale.....
