Blue Bird Fanciers

I took this screen shot from a video so it's not the finest quality but how would you like this in your backyard? These people live near our mountain and have a fountain in their yard which is obviously known to the Mountain Blue Birds. The only time I see them is when I go over that way. I would sit all day watching them if I had this fountain.

I would love it. Instead two days ago I had a pair of vultures/turkey buzzards sitting on our fence. Big birds, and nothing pretty about them.

I have never seen a bluebird, other than just a picture. The only blue birds we see here are bluejays. We get a lot of the typical

east coast birds here. They come to our two birdbaths and we and our cat love watching them.

Every morning, I put out a wild birdseed mix and peanuts for the squirrels and chipmunks. That is my cat's entertainment for the day. She's an indoor cat and watches from the screen door. There are too many coyotes here now, so cats can not go out.

They are so cute! the only 'blue' birds we have here are the Scrub Jays. I always go out, when I have the breakfast ready and say 'Boo Bird! Peanuts!' and they show up.

They do love those peanuts. It's funny how some of them will pick one up and it doesn't make the grade, so s/he will pick up another and another until it's just the right one, then take off to eat it elsewhere in the yard.

@on the bay the funny thing about it, even though I knew they were called turkey buzzards, I never pondered on the "why", until i saw them close. The hairless head resembles a wild turkey!

@Enufstuff As a long time cat lover and having been owned by a few, thank you for keeping your sweet kitty indoors. All of our cats were. They live longer and healthier lives. I can just picture a cat enjoying the scene you described!

@Love my grandkids Our Maine Coon girl is our fifth cat to live here in this house. We have been here 40 years and our first three cats loved to go out. On a little over half an acre, we have 28 pine trees and some oaks and maples and a huge lawn.

I feel badly that this cat can't enjoy climbing the trees, chasing squirrels, hiding in the hosta and piles of leaves in the fall, smelling the flowers, chasing pine cones and acorns and just lounging and soaking up the sun on the wraparound porches, like our other cats did.

Up the hill from us, there has been so much development.

Habitat has been taken from the animals, which over the past ten years has driven them into the neighborhood. Now, coyotes, turkeys, wild cats and deer are commonly seen in our yards. I feel bad for the animals, but we have to keep our pets

safely indoors.

@Enufstuff LOL. I had this exact conversation with my sister yesterday. I asked her why she put out bird seed in the summer. She said it was for her cat, and said the exact thing you did.

They're beautiful! We have Eastern Bluebirds. I have a pair using my nest box now. The female is sitting on her second set of eggs. Eastern Bluebirds usually have three clutches. I love them!

I feed them mealworms and have a bird bath, too. I love seeing the babies come around after they fledge.

Beautiful picture!

We love feeding the birds, and they do all come. We have an acre treed lot and put up five feeders on our deck. We did buy two special (and nondescript) birdhouses to attract bluebirds, and they have come! Quite rare to see in our area.

Our Maine Coon Winston also cannot go outside. For his protection. Too many predators. But unlike other folks, we cannot feed birds during the late spring to fall season. It attracts bears like crazy, and our town finally enacted an ordinance to halt putting out food for birds for that reason.

So Winston spends time on window sills, the kitchen table, and areas in our sunroom where he can look out and nap whenever he wants. He had been found roaming city streets before we adopted him, and he is spoiled rotten.
