I admit, I haven't read every comment, but here's my take, popular or not...

Everyone has the right to enjoy their home they way they see fit, not only in the ways you or I deem acceptable. You chose to take your nap at a particular time of day when others are up doing their thing. Unfortunately you were awakened. If it was after 9 or 10 PM, it would be a problem. But during the day? No. It's no different for a person who likes to sleep until 10 AM to be awakened by an early riser who decides to mow their lawn at 8AM. Noise is noise whether it's weird music or a tractor. Sometimes we just have to be tolerant rather than cause a stir with the neighbors.

Live in a very quiet rural neighorhood. Been here over 50 years and I yes know the make up of the neighborhood has changed. But today was a real challenge. Was not feeling well. Took a nap mid day only to be woken up by loud music that last more than 5 hours. Band music from new neighbor (rental) Loud and really weird music. I did call other neighbors around me who were equally upset. Should we call the rental agent? Should be call the police? Should we approach the neighbor who I cannot believe did not know about the loud sounds? I am asking for the next time around.

This reminds me of that show called "Fear Thy Neighbor" on ID. Please don't let it escalate to that. I would only call the police if it persists and it was at night. They may figure that most people are away at work or out doings errands during the day. They may mean no harm. Then again, I think of the tv show...

Find out your town's rules on noise. Usually the town's website will give you that information. Probably nothing you can do about daytime noise. Be careful whom you start with. If it is an ongoing problem maybe a group of neighbors can ask if the noise can be lowered as some of you nap during the day. I would not approach this neighbor alone in today's world, you never know ........

I've been going thru this for the last 2 or 3 years. New people moved in across the street and it began. We are in townhouses and feel very sorry for the folks on either side. I guess he doesn't work because he sits in his garage with the door up all day with the music blaring. People coming and going at all hours on the weekend. I wonder what's really going on over there. A couple neigbors have called the police and it stops for a week or 2, but then starts all over. I've thought about it because i'm awakened all the time, but afraid they'll find out who called. When walking I can hear the music over on the next block. I've been here 24 years and have never had this problem before, but I'm tired of it.

I'm just here to sympathize! I am sooo sensitive to music, and I fear the day when a younger generation moves into my neighborhood, blasting their obnoxious music!

I don't go around blaring out Beethoven, and I don't want to listen to anyone else's music! (In my own comfortable home setting.)

Maybe you can politely mention that their music was too loud once you do get to talk to them.

I feel for you. We live in a rural area too and have a doozy of a neighbor at the farm next door.

I've posted about him before. He as a good 8 dogs who roam around the roads and our yard. His cows including a bull have been out everyday this past week (won' fix fences) in the road and my yard. Has junk cars and machinery all over his property including front yard. His 30 something son races up and road all hours on a 4 wheeler. Son also was arrested for beating the k*ap out of his wife. He decides to target practice with his guns at midnight. Township has no junk ordience or noise ordience. No local police, just state police 14 miles away.

I don't say boo, he's mean, he has a short fuse and a butt ton of guns according to his brother who is the nicest person.

I'd call the police and ask if there is a noise ordinance in your town and ask who you call if you need to report a noise problem. My town has an ordinance, there's a special number to call and the police arrive with a sounder meter thing. If the noise is beyond the threshold, they put a stop to it. It could have been a party and it won't happen again or perhaps it annoyed you but really wasn't unreasonable. I would not approach the people or be nasty and try to make trouble for them with the rental agency.

I wouldn't do a THING. You were woken up from your nap - honestly, it could be a lot worse. These people are renting, they aren't home owners and probably don't give a rip about the neighborhood.

I wouldn't take them a welcome gift. The most I would do is wave hello when you see them outside.

He just does what he wants.

There are decades worth of old cars, tractors and other farm equipment sitting in fields around the house and barn. Heaven knows how much gas and oil are soaking into the ground.

@bonnielu I also live in a quiet rural neighborhood, going on 47 years now. One Sunday afternoon, probably 20+ years ago, I had my windows open. Neighbors on both sides turned on VERY loud music & I was stuck in the middle! Well, I put a Celine Dion CD in my player, turned it up as loud as possible (seriously, my walls were vibrating!), left the room and covered my ears for about 15 minutes. After that I turned off my music and there was blessed silence! It never happened again. All I ever heard after that was a quiet murmer of one neighbors radio, which didn't bother me.

To give them the benefit of the doubt...the neighborhood is heavily wooded for the most part, and each property is at least 4 acres. I think maybe they just didn't realize how sound carries through the trees!
