Thanks. That is good to know. The one I replaced is 3 years old...computer timer completely gone!

I have a washer that headed for its dreaded 30th birthday. Just before the pandemic hiy hard, my washer filled itself when it was turned off and it took some finangling to get it to empty. Had a plumber install a levered water turnoff. He didn't expect that to solve my problem, but I knew I'd had that kind of turnoff installed in my old house, so I felt better paying for that. Amazingly, the washer stopped accessing water except when I used it.

Got 2 extra years already, but I'm looking. Will check Lowe's again. They weren't selling a washer that fits into the space available in my condo -- unless I remove cabinets and maybe the doors. Trying to avoid that. Plan A or Plan B - either way I want a working laundry area. Just hope you and I get more than 3 years from our new washers.

@Zhills I noticed it was the computer that caused your problem and caused you to need a new washer. I do not think we need a computer to operate our washers. They did just fine on the old, manual dial. Why did the manufacturers decide to abandon the mechanisms that had worked successfully for decades?

I totally understand. I am amazed that everything has to have a computer. The older washer and dryers lasted for years. If I have a choice I will pick an older one everytime when you can find one. I also do not like front loading ones. Oh lets not forget some of them you need special detergent lol. I know I am so old school lol. Have a nice day everybody

Once upon a time I was a computer programmer!

A friend of mine offered me a job writing the programs for counter top ovens. I was shocked...he said, "they work just like any other computer! Nothing new!"

Had not digested that thought yet! Guess they really do!

I am suprised that Lowes installed your washer. The ones near me will not install or take the old appliance. I purchased one from a local appliance store, they delivered and installed.

I needed a new stove a couple of years ago and Lowes would not install, because it is gas. Again went to the local appliance store, no problem with installing.

@Zhills Last month while still living 2500 miles from where I am now, I ordered a refrigerator, a washer, and a dryer from Lowes online for my new house.

The appliances were sold through the local store in the new area, but the delivery and installation were done through a separate company contracted by Lowes. The installation company contacted me to set up the delivery time window. The installers delivered the items on time and did a good job.

Got my new washer from Lowes too , back in January...the tub is HUMONGOUS which I didn't realize when it was side by side in the store with the others...it also has a removable agitator ( it's a top loader)...THAT is a good idea for blanket etc...

The DUMB thing about my new washer?

It can connect to the internet.

WHY?!?!?!??!?!??!

( I don't have it set up like that. I need to wash the clothes, not be "reminded" on an app about...what? I'm not that scatterbrained).

You can't get a washer or dryer with mechanical controls any more ( I don't think). ALL the ones I saw were computer brained. I got rid of a 15 year old front loader Kenmore that died.

NEVER AGAIN front loader. They leak. They stink.

So far so good, but I'm afraid of what it will cost when and if that Brain decides to go on the fritz. SO unneccessary.

I guess what's next is a toilet paper roll that you can program to...well, you know.

We have had a front loader for six years and we love it. We have it in an area where we can leave the door open and have no problem with smells.

Maybe it depends if you live in a humid area or not. But it is so easy to put things in and take things out and not have to dig them out of a deep tub. Plus it doesn't twist the clothes into knots, and get lopsided and bang around like the old top loaders did. It has worked well for us.

I agree with the ease of access to that front loader, and actually I liked the way it did not twist up the clothes like a washer with an agitator can do...

The new top loader I got had a removeable agitator which I have not tried yet...

The Kenmore front loader did leak however. Luckily it was in a place that didn't damage a floor ( Basement) and I always left the door wide open..

The new washer IS nice, top loading, but the drum is SO deep even I, at 5'9", find it difficult to reach the bottom of the drum to remove clothes....

O well. Lowes brought it, and took the old one, and I hooked up the new one ( I like doing stuff like that....) It took all of five minutes....two new hoses and insert the drain line into the stand and zip tie it fast to the standpipe....

A washer is one appliance I will not live without!!! In the last year, I had to buy a new fridge, washer, and a new water heater....but I bought them all about the same time so they all fail about the same time!!!

Lowes brought the fridge and the washer. They did a quick, neat job of removal of the old. Plumber brought the new tank and took the old one....

I agree with poster who said to get rid of the old if you can when you can ( on delivery of the new). It's such a pain in the neck to get rid of old bulky stuff. I don't have a pickup truck, so I figure even if they charge a modest fee, it's a LOT cheaper than doing it myself!!

And how ofter do you get rid of an appliance? Once every fifteen+ or so years?

@Othereeeen We get rid of appliances usually when they start to fail. Or if we move to a house and the appliances are not up to par.

Right now, we need to get rid of the cooktop in this house, it isn't up to what we need to cook with. It is a Jenn Air and it just doesn't have a simmar burner that we need, or the heat output either.

With the pandemic it has outlived what it would have otherwise!
