Why don't you look up the side effects of the drug?

If weight gain is common, it will be listed.

I'm on three medications with weight gain as a side effect. I have to really try just to stay even.

Not to mention, can't imagine soliciting opinions regarding any medication(s) my doctor prescribes. My doctor prescribes whatever he deems is best for me based on a lot of factors. That is what he is trained to do. And if something caused issue, I would discuss with him and under his direction, make changes if necessary. Its not like getting a new beauty product and asking opinions how it is working for others.

I think most of those types of medications lists weight gain as a side effect.

Oh, my depression meds help, they just have that unfortunate side effect, but I am not having any fun if I don't take them.

I made a serious suicide attempt while taking for two months---that was a couple of decades ago---wouldn't take it again---there are way better antidepressants out there

Many antidepressants can have this effect, but not always and not for every person. This is one reason we need to rely on our personal physicians and pharmacists for advice, rather than reading Internet websites.

People I know who've taken it have lost weight but I understand that is not always the case. Just make sure you and your doctor monitor things closely.

some people suffer a loss of appetite when they're severely depressed and will gain weight once they start taking antidepressants because eating becomes enjoyable again.

Sometimes you have to decide if the benefit outweighs the other side effects.

Didn't you say you thought the steroid you were on caused weight gain too? Maybe the combination made it worse.
