WOW! An amazing story of how my husband brought our lawn mower back from the dead

Because of the economy, my DH and I knew we are going to have to cancel either our yard service and house cleaning service (we're both in our 70's and starting to have the aches, pains, and so on at this time of life).

We knew we could retain one of these services but which one?

As it turns out, we have a Black and Decker lawn mower that is about 10 years old, sitting unused in our ancient shed (I think it's just all the rust that's keeping it still standing). It's electric (with a cord rather than a battery) so we don't have to mortgage our house to gas it up.

This afternoon DH went to the shed, made a few adjustments, then hit the "go" button...and it fired right up; no problems at all. I was amazed. I'm going to write a letter to Black and Decker; I'm sure they'd like to know how well one of their products is holding up.

This is going to save us somewhere around $3000 a year which we could really use.

Write a super letter and perhaps they'll give you a new one.....and don't forget to...... lightly hint at your age!

Don't let hubby overdue - 1/2 hour mowing at a time and then rest.

After that long, he must have said "come forth Lazarus". I'm impressed that the B&D mower works because you are saving a lot of money.

@PuppyLoverBob666 I'm glad the mower works! When I used to do mine I had a new gas mower and a push blower. I hated the gas smell in the back garage and pulling the cord to start it. I have lots of leaves and the push blower didn't work on grass well. A cord is too short for my acre.
My son gave me a yard service for my birthday, after a year I went with another service and they keep raising prices, grass seed and spraying ar ridiculous. But I'm older and have to keep them. It's beautiful but expensive. I gave the blower and mower to the yard man. Then I bought a Stihl hand battery blower for the driveway between times the service comes. Today I blew pollen and debris from tulip poplar & beech trees. It's great!

My maid stopped coming when the pandemic started and since she wouldn't be vaccinated I'm still doing house cleaning. It's getting harder but I do it weekly. I had her only every other week.
Today I found Wendy's free senior drink was discontinued so I'm eating at home. Saving where I can!

@PuppyLoverBob666 Thanks for posting your story. It reminded me very much of my mother and how much she loved mowing her grass. She claimed it was because of her good old electric mower (I have no idea what brand it was). I just remember how we fussed and worried she might accidentally run over the power cord. If she was still with us she would probably still be mowing.
Her yard always looked nice.

I have begged and even offered to pay for a lawn service for my parents. My mother insists on mowing the front and back yard at 88 years old!

I have kept the lawn service that my ex-husband hired about 12 years ago. It's worth it to me to have my yard taken care of every Friday so when my weekend starts, I don't have the lawn mower waiting for me. He's a "mow and blow" guy, and I still do the seeding, fertilizing, weeding, and fixing the sprinklers, but he is my gift to myself and it would be really hard to give it up while I'm still working.

Great story....I would definitely write to B & D and mention how you are having to cut expenses. I hate to be a debby downer but I doubt the new ones are as good as your old one.

You really should write to the company, that is an amazing testimonial on the quality of their product. My mom would have said your guardian angel was protecting you.

Nice!! B&D makes good stuff. I have an electric lid twister that is so old, even I don't know. Still going strong on peanut butter jars.

My dh tinkers. He brings back everything from the dead here at our home! We have a 1979 snowblower we bought in our first house back when we got married. He has brought that back from the dead many times and its still going strong! He just fixed our commercial brand power washer that was completely dead. He power washed our house yesterday! We have saved tons of money with his wonderful passion for fixing things!
