John Hinckley Jr, who tried to assassinate Ronald Reagan in 1981, will play SOLD-OUT show in Brooklyn this summer after serving 35 years in
psychiatric hospital

Would-be Ronald Reagan assassin John Hinckley Jr., 66, will play a sold-out Brooklyn concert in July, 40 years after attempting to take the president's life
The tickets sold out on April 12, with Hinckley tweeting that he was 'very excited'

After spending 35 years in a psychiatric ward, Hinckley has amassed 800,000 views on his YouTube channel, where he posts original songs and covers

On March 30, 1981, Hinckley shot then-president Reagan, two of his staffers and a policeman in an attempt to 'impress' actress Jodie Foster
In 2020, a judge allowed him to display and perform his music - a 1995 civil settlement had banned Hinckley from benefiting from his name or story.

Hinckley, 66, tweeted on April 9 that he was 'very excited about [his] upcoming show.'

The desire to attach themselves to anyone famous is my guess. You should read the comments on his youtube channel.

I think some felons and prisoners should never profit like that. But, this is America and as long as it wasn't writing a book, or other stuff they profit from , I say oh well. But this is insane. Seriously, I would like to see who in the heck would go to these things. Creepy and sick

Yes! Great point - James Brady was gravely wounded in that assasination attack.

I actually also just remembered that Hinkley was dangerously obsessed with Jodie Foster; she cannot possibly feel good about having him out of an institution and performing a concert.

I think his ticket sales and any profit he makes until his death should be required by law to be donated to the James Brady anti-gun violence organization.

I had no idea he was out of the institution, or maybe he isn't completely, and is being granted an "outing"? I know there have been inexplicable, sporadic attempts to get him out, but had hoped that wiser heads would prevail.

It is grotesque, that a judge, someone we rely upon to have good sense, would allow this individual to be rewarded for his notoriety.

No attempted assassin of a President of the United States should be given the ability to "perform" in public under any circumstances.

So, I'm guessing that he won't make any money off this? Tix are $20. Does he need permission to play Elvis (from the estate), Joni Mitchell and Bob Dylan--or do they have his blessing?
