Here's A New One From UPS.

We’re sorry this package has experienced a sortation delay. The package has been rerouted to the correct destination.

What they really mean is "We put it on the wrong truck."

I guess UPS thinks "sortation delay" sounds better than "goof."

At least they know where the package is. Mine from Brighton is lost in UPS la la land and they have no clue where it is. It got within 10 miles of my house and poof no sign of it. It even went out for delivery. There's an open ticket so maybe someday they will find it and I'll get it but I don't have any hope.

@Foxxee That is a good one! Unfortunately, a large number of people won't digest what it means. I never realized how many out there just don't think or process information. For those that do, sortation delay is clever.

Yesterday I tried to pay dues online for an organization I belong to. It wouldn't work. Error message:

Execution thrown off by lack of invocation.

Maybe that wasn't such a bad result.

I think UPS and the USPS do a fantastic job with the amount of packages (and mail) they have to deliver. I've seen both working on Saturdays and Sundays making deliveries. I'm not ever going to complain about establishments that work that hard. I make mistakes too and I'm sure most people make mistakes from time to time.

I know this must be news to you but they (USPS) do use sorting machines. Don't you remember that Louis DeJoy wanted to get rid of them. UPS uses a type of sorting machine to route the packages on the loading dock.

uh recently my HP printer wouldn't work and i got this message on my computer...

"Printer isn't comunicating with ink!"

uh. while checking my ink my black ink needed to be replaced!

I hate to say it but using the word "sortation" actually makes sense based on the definition: "the process or result of sorting things, especially computationally or mechanically. Noun: (especially in data processing) the process of sorting or its result."

I learned something today.

No, it's NOT news to me!!!

Whether it was a sorting machine error or not, (I have a problem believing any of the shippers anymore - it could be human error) my package WAS put on a wrong truck regardless of whose fault it is.

Instead of saying it was "put on the wrong truck" exact words, a notification, I actually did receive one time from UPS, they are saying "sorting delay." New terminology for UPS. What will they use next?

I'm sure you know the main reason USPS has had financial troubles is because the bulk of their money had been coming from mail, not shipping. Mail delivery continues to decline because fewer people are using mail.

Mr. DeJoy wanted to get rid of some mail sorters, not shipping sorters, because USPS no longer needed that many. Why have them sitting around unused taking up space?

Everyone jumped up and down during Covid because of USPS shipping delays blaming DeJoy for getting rid of the sorters, but again they were mail sorters, not shipping. Typical reaction in this country. This untruth is still being passed around.

UPS used to be FANTASTIC but not anymore.....and no one seems to care if you call them or submit a complaint form......I'm glad you have had good experiences.....

From hearing family, friends, co-workers, and this Forum, and go read their Facebook Page and see how many mistakes are made....I would define it as incompetance and a company can't remain in business that way....

And according to their drivers that also whine and complain on their Facebook Page----they dont like the 4 hours "down time"....maybe if they took some time to make sure deliveries were handled correctly they wouldnt have so much "down time"---haste makes waste as they say......

I used to do legal transcription many years ago. The rule was if the word was not in Webster's, the attorneys couldn't use it. You sure made yourself popular sending work back with that notation. I will bet you my next vacation "sortation" is not in Webster's. I like the idea of creating new words, times they are a changing.
