Since you brought up turkey's, I have a question. We have seen wild turkeys before but never a lone turkey sleeping between two evergreen bushes in the stone that is up against our home in front yard landscaping. This just happened a few hours ago and it is dark out now. I thought they slept in trees at night but it is obvious it is bedded down for the night. It's a female. I imagine it came out of the woods behind our house but never have I seen a lone turkey sleeping in my landscaping. Has anyone else heard of this?

@jubilant We have a lone turkey who was around a lot two winters ago. He was lame so I guess the other turkeys didn't want him around. He hung out on the top of my Jeep during most days or if it snowed a lot he came up on the back deck and huddled by the house. But every night he flew up into a tree to sleep. Did you research to see why she didn't sleep in a tree?

@proudlyfromNJ Yes, I looked it up and all I could find was something about a bush turkey and female turkeys will go to the ground to lay eggs. We know she can walk and fly as she flew from a neighbors yard in broad daylight and was still in our bushes last we looked at dark and looked like she was sleeping. They are fairly big bushes up against the house and surrounded by stone. It's getting down in the 30's and low 40's at night here but she would be pretty much out of the wind there. I am anxious to see if she is still there tomorrow morning. We have lived here over 30 yrs. and have never seen a turkey do this before so we were kind of surprised.

@jubilant I did wonder if maybe it was baby time for your turkey. You're right, that was probably it.

Beautiful photo @godi . I can hear the wild turkeys gobbling from my deck this morning and have seen several Tom's out displaying this last week or so. Love to watch them strut and the hens act so cool (lots of times they look like they are totally ignoring the displays) or eyeing the lot with interest. For some reason seeing the wild turkeys is special to me. I am so enjoying seeing them while I can since there is so much development in this area of the state.
