☕️ Question for you instant coffee drinkers ☕️

When you microwave your hot water, is the instant coffee, cream and/or sugar already in the mug?

If so, should the water be cold or hot (from the spicket) when you put in the microwave?

I rarely drink coffee only when I feel chilled which I do this morning. I want to try the microwave this time around.

I do have a 12 cup coffee maker but do not know how to use it. I can't find the user manual. My brother & paramour uses it when they are staying over as they are heavy coffee drinkers.

I am a tea drinker.

I always add instant coffee into hot water, so after the water is heated. Don't use cream, milk, or sugar.

You can find a manual for your coffee pot on line.

I don't use water from the faucet as our water has a horrible taste. I use spring water which I leave out at room temp. Cold just takes longer to heat. I don't add additional until water is heated. I add afterwards. BUT be careful to make the water not to the point it boils. If you add it immediately and it's too hot, it will boil over. I like mine really hot. So I heat it a bit first, then add coffee/sugar and put it back in to heat to my liking, keep a watchful eye. Last step is the creamer.

After a few times making it, you'll know what timing is best for you.

I know I can find a manual online. The thing is the coffee maker is on top of my kitchen cabinet. Didn't feel like getting my latter out to climb up to bring it down just to look & write down the model & serial #s.

I use Folger's instant and put it in a cup of water from the faucet and microwave for 80 seconds. Works for me.

I rarely drink instant, but when I do I use the Folger's Coffee Singles. I heat the cool water (from the fridge dispenser) first in the microwave, then let the bag steep for about a minute and it's good to go.

I add instant coffee it to unsweetened chocolate almond milk that I heat up on the stove...then reheat the cup every so often in the microwave to refill with more almond milk and instant coffee. I combine 1/2 and 1/2 decaf with regular instant, so I get less caffeine with all the flavor.

It makes no difference if the coffee is added before or after microwaving to me.

I always use cold water because my hot water is softened. I fill a mug halfway with water, then to the top with milk. I heat it in the microwave for 1 minute 45 seconds. Then add the instant coffee. If you use sugar, you would add it at the end.

I just started drinking Folgers instant this year, and like it.

I too am mostly a tea drinker, but sometimes like a coffee in the later morning or afternoon.

I guess I do it the "old fashioned" way. I boil water (from tap, cold, filtered) on the stove, pour into a cup with the coffee already in it, and then add cream or milk. It's always steaming hot...like I like it.

If I worried about the cream, milk making it cold, in the past I have added both coffee and cream to the cup then pouring hot water over it...that works too, if you prefer.

Only time I use my microwave for coffee or tea is if it cools down after it's all made. But I also have an electric warmer coaster to keep it hot...so rarely have to do that.

I just have never found microwaved water to be the same as boiled on the stove, especially for tea...but that's just me.

I boil the water in a tea kettle, then add it to instant coffee crystals. I don't know why I don't use the microwave, just habit I suppose.

@Mz iMac enjoy your Coffee. Just start with Cold water. I was told by a plumber to not use the hot water from the tap if it comes out of the water heater.

I always start with plain microwave-heated water, add my stuff to that and then drink it.

I have been an instant coffee drinker for years as my late husband could only have decaf coffee. I cannot do decaf at all. Back then they didn't have one cup brewers and I did not want to puchase another brewer. These are my tips, never ever micro the water as it gives the coffee an off taste, always use a good brand of instant coffee. My choices are Yuban (when I can find it), Tasters Choice, Nescafe Classico, and Folgers. It is okay to reheat in micro but not to make the coffee. Now I use my Keriug and instant combined. JMO HTH

I heat the water alone in the microwave and then add it to the coffee and sugar in the mug, then add cream. The coffee doesn't taste as good to me if it is heated in the m.wave. Just me, I guess.

UPDATE

Added Maxwell instant coffee in the mug.

Added cold water from the spicket-filled mug a little over 1/2 of water.

Heated in microwave for 1 minute.

Then added a little more water, then sugar & creamer. Stirred it up real good.

Microwaved for 1 minute & 15 seconds

Came out perfect!

I want to thank everyone for helping me out. I printed out everyone's suggestions.

I love Folger's Instant Coffee.

I pour boiled water from a whistling kettle into the cup of instant coffee granules.

Many, many, many years ago, I used to love Taster's Ch*ice instant.

Then, still many, many years ago, the flavor seemed to have changed, (for me) imo.

So, then, I tried many other brands and found that I liked and still like Folgers instant.

Hot water obviously boils faster, less microwave time. If I decide to use our filtered water, it is only cold. Time for hot water=2 minutes. Filtered water 3 minutes.

My wife drinks only the high $$$ Starbucks or Scooters. Coffee? Beats me as there is caramel/frothed milk or cream, and heavens knows what else. She also drinks tea. The hot type from same vendors, she makes her own cold sun tea.
