I wonder if maintaining a large security force is a part of the overhead in owning such opulent yachts? I mean, there you are in a floating mansion, proclaiming your wealth for all to see. Once you're out to sea, you're awfully vulnerable to attack. Of course, this is a rhetorical question for me, as I can't afford a yacht and I get terribly seasick. 🤢

It's interesting to see these pictures. I believe the yachts being confiscated (oligarchs) are considerably larger.

I couldn't enjoy one can't get out in sun must maintain the life of a vampire.

LOL already had 2 skin basal cells removed, 2 spots on nose too, sprayed off for being 'pre-cancerous'. got couple of sun blocker masks and what some might call 'sniper' mask for when I spend any time outside.

hmm, I am curious so I looked it up.

What is the carbon footprint of a yacht?

For example, a superyacht with a permanent crew, helicopter pad, submarines and pools emits about 7,020 tons of CO2 a year, according to our calculations, making it by the far worst asset to own from an environmental standpoint.

I suppose once you have so much money, toys like this are the norm. And, then, of course, the staff to maintain all of it...and, like you said, security, etc.....and on and on.

Fueling one of these things would likely be more than the annual income of many. So it goes.

Hey, good for them. Well, a yacht can certainly give people privacy and allow them to decompress from a demanding business and career.

Personally, I find being out on the water (or next to it) to be very soothing.

Keep in mind that whenever a wealthy person buys something extravagant, many people get a paycheck. It might be in the manufacture of the extravagance, or crew, or maintenance ... or whatever.

Many years ago, Aaron Spelling, the mega TV producer, justified his mansion. He said he never goes anywhere because he is constantly working and can't make time for even a short vacation, so he has a big home which is his "vacation". He loved his home and the fact that he could enjoy it every day.

IMO, more jobs are created with "things" than if the cash was just sitting in a mutual fund.

JMO, of course.
