I Think this was a scam call

I decided to answer a landline call yesterday( I usually don't answer unknown calls) just to see what this one was about. The guy introduced himself as Mike from "Solar Home" but the red flag for me was that Mike had a "india" accent. That was enough for me so I hung up. Does anyone else think that was probably a scam call?

@Goodie2shoes Of course it was. These go on all the time. I'm surprised you aren't more familiar with these. They are running rampant.

Many legitimate companies use offshore resources to keep costs down.

I’m not saying it wasn’t spam but you can’t assume it’s a scam simply because you hear an accent.

@Goodie2shoes No doubt it was a scam. You made the correct decision hanging up. I never engage these people in a conversation. I do not answer my phone if I don't recognize the number on caller ID. If it is a legitimate call they will leave a message. If the message is someone or a business I recognize I return the call. If not, I ignore the message.

Oh I am very familiar with these idiots ! I get calls all the time and I have said a few curse words to them. I actually told this guy what I thought of him in a not so nice way and hung up. Sometimes it just feels good to let them know that you know exactly what they are trying to do and that we are aware of their scams

@Goodie2shoes Good that you hung up without answering. I'm sure next time you won't answer at all. Protect yourself. Whether an Indian accent or not....Mike from Solar is not your friend. You took the right action.

Boy, I don't know what was going on today but by 1:24 PM I had 28 spam calls. The calls even started at 8:48 AM. Someone was doing alot of work. The calls were from all different cities and states.

@Goodie2shoes You realize I hope, that everytime you answer one of these calls you're letting them know they have a live line with a potential sucker and they'll keep calling or sell or trade your number. I never answer and rarely get calls.

Haven't received a call about Solar but I just moved to a brand new subdivision and so far I have had 2 different Companies stop by to talk about Solar energy.

Some how I do not believe that was spam call, but you did the right thing since you did not feel comfortable.

I don't know if that was a scam or not, better to be safe than sorry. Over the years I have spoke to several CS rep's with names like Mike, Fred, Jim, etc, with a persian accent. Seems they just use whatever name they want to make it easier on us, I guess.

Block the number if you can. That's what I do.

We got so many of those calls ,8-10 every day , we blocked until our phone blocking was filled , they just use a different number anyway . We finally had the landline removed and it is so peaceful and quiet without that loud ringing every hour ! They have really started hitting on my cell with texting and calling , so I supposed that will be the next thing! At least I can set my cell to only ring people on my contacts list.

@Goodie2shoes If the caller was legit, he/she would have left a message. Messages from SS or from other government agencies are all spam.

Now your name & phone # will be sold on the dark web as a "live one."

Why didn't you turn off your ringer?

I also have a landline. I suffer from migraines. Approximately 30 yrs ago I turned my landline ringer OFF. I let my answering machine take all calls. As far as I am concerned, if you do not leave a message you never called and/or it's a spam call. My friends & family know this.

Also, if I am watching tv, my caller ID shows on the tv screen. This is done through my IP.

It's rare I get "spam" calls. If I get 5 or 6 spam calls a year, that's a lot!

For whatever reason, those types of calls have slowed down for me recently. I never answer any calls if I don't recognize the name or #. If it's something important, they can leave a message.

@Goodie2shoes Maybe a scam but more likely a telemarketing call, but either way you most likely wouldn't be hearing a great deal if you had hung on. Glad you hung up.

Just a reminder to those who don't know: Picking up the phone and yelling at them is exactly what they want, the scammers now know that they have a live line and will sell your number which relates in more calls. Yelling or blowing whistles is the wrong action. This information has been discussed ad infinitum on these threads. Just don't pick up the phone and turn the ringer off on landlines. The scam calls will lessen.

I recently upgraded my routers with FIOS. Not sure how they do it, but they seem to screen out most of my spam calls. I can see the call number on my TV screen (I have caller ID), but my phone doesn't ring. I can see by the area code that it's not a number I would have answered anyway. It's so much more peaceful around here these days. I still get an occasional spam call, but not nearly the amount I used to get.

Since I got rid of my landline several years ago all of these scam/telemarketing/robocalls STOPPED....I never get these on my cell phone.....

Yes, the name "Mike" attached to an Indian voice is a dead giveaway. They need to use an Indian name, like Samesh.
