So cold that my smoke detector started beeping! I didn't know they did that! Finally got it to stop by closing bedroom door ( the coldest room). Currently snuggled on couch in my slanket with my cat! -24 this morning!

Wind chills here this morning are running 30-40 below as well.

Do you have old blankets/sheets? You can put them up over your windows or patio door/entry door to insulate against the cold.

Staying huddled in your warmest room is a great idea. Can you hang a blanket up over an entryway to the hall, etc to contain the heat to one room?

Put a pot of water on top of the stove without a lid to boil. Raising the humidity in your place will help to make it feel warmer.

I just dressed more warmly indoors than I usually do. Year round I usually wear shorts & a t-shirt. Right now I have on the t-shirt, fuzzy socks, yoga pants, & a sweat jacket over the t-shirt. When I go to watch tv, I'll be getting under a fuzzy, warm blanket.

Have you thought of purchasing a small electric heater and putting it into the coldest room? It can bring up the temperature as much as five degrees. I used to use one in my apartment and it helped to get through the frigid weather when the landlord turned down the heat.

I think QVC used to sell them...

Celeste,

Please do not ignore your beeping smoke detector. The beeping is an indication that the battery is low and the detector is not properly functioning. Cold particularly affects alkaline batteries and shortens their life.

One (of many) things I am very thankful for when it gets too cold, is that at least I don't have to jump up and shower and get ready for work! Since I retired, I wait until the house warms up before I shower. I also recall the cold mornings when the car windshield had ice on it and we had to "warm up the car" and hope some of the ice would go away as you get ready to drive to work. I am glad for the small things, I guess, as well as the big things, like good heat and warm clothes.

I also meant to hope for Celeste that you get warmer weather soon, stay safe and warm!!
