Sounds like the Arkansan rats had quite a party! I'd never buy food or drugs at these stores. Heck, I never shop there, period.

I think any store can have/get rats...all the shipments that come in....I have heard of bed bugs found in NEW CLOTHING in stores etc .....they came in from other countries where the clothes are manufactured.

@SeaMaiden yeah I think that's pretty accurate. Hubs was and still is in grocery store back stock areas. He told me I'm not going to tell you what I see running across the floor and what peeks out when I move a box. As long as bugs and rodents have a food source, they will be with us. Yes, poison boxes control some of it, but they breed and multiply so quickly there isn't a thing we can do.

I remember a long time ago, I was in a Macy's dressing room and a mouse was running wild back there. I nearly had a coronary.

Disgusting. Glad I have never shopped in those dollar stores. Yuck!

I should change that to I have never shopped in ANY dollar stores. Would never buy any items that go inside or on the outside of my body.

mice won't bother you. they're more scared of us then we are of them.

Rats, are another story. I set trips out in the garage for mice all the time, when, killed, throw 'em out and reset the traps with peanut butter.

Your local health department will also verify that your local hospitals have high level rat activity in their kitchens, and warehouses, as well.

I shop at the Dollar General Store quite a bit. Dollar Tree is another good store to get things like toothpaste, soap, etc.

I feel awful for all the people who work there. They could be really ill from all that contact with the contaminated items. I hope they will be well taken care of by their employer, or failing that, that they bring a lawsuit.

I knowthat supermarkets and the finest restaurants deal with bugs and vermin all the time, but there is something inherently off-putting about the idea of food from a dollar store. I have read stories for years about things like toothpaste and other toiletries containing lead and other stuff that are prohibited in goods manufactured in western countries but are routinely found in the Chinese manufactured products that are the main staples of Dollar Store inventory.

To trust anything that would be ingested seems pretty risky to me.

Check out their candy....names you never heard of and all from China.

We only have Dollar Tree here where I live. I do go there to buy cards and gift wrap and gift bags. That's it, I would never buy food there or really anything you can consume.

I deliberately waited until I finished dinner to read this thread. We're near a wooded area and get some rats in the garage or attic when the weather turns nasty. Our daughter's cat and the young hawks in the neighborhood seem to have things under control right now.

I was in line once waiting to pay for my gas (before the credit card machines). They had a case behind glass sliding doors where the donuts were. I glanced over and saw a little mouse IN THE CASE running back and forth oover the donuts!!! I grabbed a stranger's arm and yelled, 'a mouse!!!' He smiled and said, 'aww, they don't eat much' or something meant to be funny. I of course told the cashier. The very next day the board of health called me (I guess I gave my name) and wanted details. Hope they nailed them. I can't look at those donut shelves in any store anymore.
