How are you with small talk?

I'm no good at it any more I think. LOL. I prefer quiet. Crawling back to my den. LOL

Are you good with small talk, can you carry on a conversation without much pain?

How would you do with today's dating? Could you handle it?

I'm an introvert so I don't do very well with small talk. I can't imagine dating in today's online world.

I'm not into small talk in general. I am a sociable person but have found I've become quieter in my older years. I really can't deal with talking about the weather or some nonsense like that, not that I discuss rocket science but a lot of topics have become uninteresting to me. And dating you ask??? Dear God, no way in he**!!!! I am lucky to still have my DH but if I ever became widowed I would be done for sure.........IMO, I have already had the best in life, I would never try to seek another love........it would be way too exhausting, LOL!

I'm not good with small talk. I'm awful at it. I tend to be reserved and shy around people I don't know well. It doesn't cause me pain when I have to be social with strangers but I vote off as distant until people get to know me. I'm thankful I married very young and that it's a happy marriage because I would not do well in modern dating. I'm not a one night stand, hook up, casual secks type of person so my dating options would be limited or non existent.

We could be twins! I married young, my high school sweetheart. We've been together since 1970. I can't imagine sharing a bathroom with another man, or having to look good 24/7. The worst would be having to be witty when I just want to eat alone in my room!

I'm not fond of small talk but I can rattle on with the best of them. Many times, though, I get home and think, "Why the heck did I say that?!" I tend to analyze it all and be critical of myself. Fun times.

For me, it depends on the person. I Often like talking with store cashiers if they seem friendly. They have to stand there all day & deal with customers. Some of them not so nice. So, I like to bring a smile to their faces for a few moments of the day.

I easily talk to people. I have a knack for striking up conversations with strangers (grocery store, restaurants etc). It's easy for me. And often times I'll take something that I've noticed about a person to initiate a bit of fun banter. Example: someone wearing a sports team shirt or hat "ah I see you're Packers fan. Your must be from up north"

or someone says their name and I'll say "what a pretty/unique/ cool name. How come I got such a boring one! I need a hyphen or an apostrophe to jazz it up". People chuckle. I make it my mission to have at least one fun, brief interaction with someone every day. Ppl need a lift.

I feel I can be in any group and be comfortable with the situation. I'm most happy to be alone with my studies and in nature, but I am at ease with community. I'm dedicated to my life's work which requires a lot of alone time and attend conferences/seminars where I am happy to learn/share.

I detest small talk, always have. I used to go to these fancy social functions in NY with my DH and everyone just talked to hear themselves talk. No one really cared about what you were saying unless you knew the people well. It is a waste of my time I have no interest in babbling to strangers or to hear them. I am very friendly when I go into my local stores in the neighborhood and everyone thinks I am so outgoing - but I am really an introvert. Like short conversations with people who really interest me.

I do pretty well at small talk. I worked retail for 42 years and always found it easy to strike up a conversation with people. I always say I can talk to anyone about anything. However, there were times I would come home from work and not want to talk to anyone for a while. LOL

I 'm shy and introverted, but I learned long ago that most people like to talk about themselves. I ask questions, not intrusive, but general and this usually gets the ball rolling.

I was going to say I have improved over the years but after reading some of the posts, I realize not in large groups. OK in smaller groups but basically I am kind of an introvert, and that is fine by me. I have a friend who has to be out every minute of the day she can interacting with people but that is not me. She makes me wonder if some people are afraid to be alone. I can be happy just sitting back reading for hours.

I take after my mom's side of the family and they are introverts so small talk has never been my thing. Once I get to know a person, I'm a different person. My dad, on the other hand, was completely different. I remember going to Disney World and he was telling us all about one of the park workers. We thought for sure he knew them from home or somewhere but no.....he was a jabber!! LOL! He was like that wherever he went.

@qualitygal I feel I am good with small talk. I can either start a conversation or join in on one. Ironically, when I was younger, not so much. Maybe it's because now in my life I have so much to look back on and so many experiences to share with others. And I can also B.S. with the best of 'em. 😉

While working at The Disney Store, I grew to be more and more comfortable talking to everyone that came into the store. Also there was a varied group of people who worked in the store. Everything from students, surgical nurses and teachers. We would go out together after work, we would go on road trips together and even take vacations (at Walt Disney World) together.

I felt comfortable talking to anyone.
