Wow, I love the quality of that velvety blackness, against the creamy crescent moon! Did it look that black in person, @godi , with no trace of underlying midnight blue?

I DID seeit last night here in W. PA.....It was just where it shown in my side window as I lay in bed....it was crystal clear and freezing cold and still....

"A quarter moon over a nickel and dime town" is what it was!!!

@Oznell The picture above ⬆️ is one I took earlier the lights from the little town below blurred it. I had to wait till it moved over in the sky. It was pitch black just magical. Wait there is blue in the pic above. 🤣🤣

I learned about this waxing crescent moon last night.I looked at the moon and it was the brightest quarter moon I had ever seen and I could see the rest of the moon in a kind of grey film but details.It looked like a spotlight.

I texted one of my daughters and she looked and said it is so beautiful!

So I looked up what is the moon tonight? And learned that the waxing crescent moon is the brightest and also we are able to see the most details of the rest of the moon in this one.

Last night I think it was only 8% so not really a quarter moon. As it gets to 50% it will be the brightest of all.

My favorite moon of all time which I haven't seen since-

I was driving home one night several years ago down a small winding road and in the sky was a huge gorgeous bright orange moon but it really seemed to fill half the sky. I guess I was there just at the right time from the right angle and spot.

It was unbelievable.

The moon is amazing. I've always loved looking at it. And from our spot on the earth wherever we are, it is glorious from just this place. Something we can all share together.

@on the bay I too looked up the moon phase last night. For some reason it was just different to me. I always think to myself somewhere someone else at the same time is looking up at the sky just like me. Your correct we do all share the wonders of the sky.

When I was younger and spent summers at the family home at the mountains, I was awed by the star filled skies I used to see. It was such a beautiful sight and seeing this photo of the waxing crescent moon, so clear and bright, brings me back to those summer nights.

Are you using a real camera or your phone? I can never get good moon pictures with my iPhone X or my iPad, even on a full-moon night. My pictures never are as beautiful as in person so I don't bother to post them.

@on the bay I'm a "moonie" too. I've always loved looking at the moon and learning about it. Did you know the moon is moving away from Earth a tiny bit every year?

I did not know that!

When my kids were little I used to say, look at the moon! And they would say yeah, mom it's the moon.

But now they appreciate it too which makes me happy that we can share all the beautiful things of nature.

My father used to say when we were little-"Look girls! It's a plane!" while looking out the window. And we would say yeah, it's a plane!🙄

Now I love watching and listening to planes.
