The only thing Walmart bakery did was frost & decorate the cake, they don't make them....ask for the name & contact info of the cake manufacturer & let them know what happened. Walmart will refund your money....Good Luck @Susan423.

I special ordered a cake from Walmart for a birthday party tonight. My husband wanted me to bring him a piece home. So after everyone was served, I cut a big piece from the corner of the cake and brought it home. As he was eating it he pulled out a long piece of wire that was in the cake. A minute later he pulled out another piece of wire. Words cannot describe how upset I am. What if someone at the party had gotten that piece. I guess I should also consider myself lucky that I chose that piece to take home and it wasnt served to a guest. So I've ever both prices of the wires and I'm heading my angry self down to Wal-Mart tomorrow. Any advice on how to handle it. What should I say and expect them to say? I'm not even sure what to ask for or what they may offer. I just really don't want this to happen to anyone else.

Yikes! Something like this happened to me many years ago. My sister went out to dinner after a day of shopping. I ordered a huge chef salad.

i ate all the good stuff....eggs, cheese, ham, etc off first. Then I started on the lettuce on the bottom. To my shock, there are about 20 of those wire ties that are used on a bread bag just sitting there under the lettuce.

I got really grossed out. The waitress took it back into the kitchen to have it investigated.

It turned out that the salad station in the kitchen had a bowl on a top shelf where the used bread wires were stored. A handful of them fell into the bowl....or whoever made the salad used a bowl that someone put those wires into for storage.

We both got our dinners for free...we just tipped the waitress. I now dig through a large salad looking to see what is in there before I start eating.

I would hope that Walmart refunds your money, apologizes and discovers the source of those wire pieces so it doesn't happen again.

i would try to stay calm and polite and speak to the bakery manager. I know from working in customer service for 25 years that if you are irate, no one takes you seriously and just wants to get you to leave.

Best of luck to you.

Thanks carmine. This is the first time something like this has happen to me. It sure is scared. I'm sure by romorrow5, I'll feel a bit more calm. I do try to be respectful to customer service workers since I'm sure they get yelled at quite often.

Having worked in customer service in a grocery store after retiring, I can offer one tip: Be nice. Be firm but don't sink to a nasty level.

Store employees take so much ****** from people who think they are owed something for nothing or are trying to pull fast ones on the store.

I've had things thrown at me. I've caught people using fake money. I've seen weapons. I've been cussed out, called every name in the book, been ridiculed, screamed at, etc. One customer even tried to hit me.

whoa. i'm so glad your husband is ok. you should always document stuff when something unfortunate happens so that you can show proof. it reminds me of when we used to live in nyc. we were shopping in lord and taylor and then decided to have lunch their cafe. we split a cobbler for dessert and there was broken glass in it. seemed like it was put there because it was inside of it. not on top or the bottom. got our meal for free, but never ate there again

I hope you took photos of the wire actually in the cake before it was pulled out...if you could. Or at least of the wires beside the piece of cake. Good luck! At most, I would expect the price of the cake to be refunded. Maybe you'll get lucky and they'll do more. I don't know what that would be, but...

Years ago I purchased bagels from a dollar store. Someone else in my

family pulled it apart to toast and discovered what looked like a piece of

wood on the inside.

I just threw the bag away and will never buy any bread of any type at

those dollar stores again.

Good luck. I purchase lots of cakes from Walmart too. I believe they will

totally refund the price you paid without any problems.

Unfortunately this kind of thing happens occasionally. I was thinking of what I have experienced.

A wire in a frozen breaded fish Patty in a school lunch.

A wire from a steel scrubber in a Chinese restaurant meal.

A piece of a rubber glove in a Head Start individual box of name brand cereal. The director contacted the cereal manufacturer.

It sounds like the source of who baked those cakes needs to be determined? That is alot of wire ! I hope it wasn't intentional. That to me is what is really scary. I am sure Wal-Mart will refund your purchase. I am glad everyone is o.k.

Before going back to Walmart, I would file a formal complaint with the FDA. I use to work with food inspection division of the FDA and they want to know about these things and make sure all safety procedures are being followed:

Below is the link to the regional agency in your part of the woods:

https://www.fda.gov/safety/report-problem-fda/consumer-complaint-coordinators

Save the pieces of wire - the FDA will want it for their investigation.

DO NOT give the wire to Walmart - they want to hide this under the rug - refund your money and pretend nothing happened. By all means, go back to Walmart for a refund, but make sure you keep the wires and do not let anyone from Walmart take it from you to "show their manager) and then it disappears for good.

That's awful but it's how to handle it is a no brainer. You take that piece if cake and the wires and your receipt for the cake back to Walmart and ask for the manager. You tell him what you told us. I personally would tell him other people took cake home and maybe they got wires in their cake too. It is possible that someone did but didn't say anything. I'd request a refund but I'd be happy with an apology and a store credit.

When i was a kid we found a hunk of metal the size of a Rice Chex square inside the Chex cereal box. The metal piece had the grid pattern as a Rice Chex square. I guess my Dad told them about it. he had to write a letter.

Something else happened, i don't recall what it was, with some baked goods from Pepperidge Farm. Again my Dad wrote a letter to them. They sent us a big box of assorted cookies.

Once i ordered a Cinnamon Stick at Dunkin Donuts. Halfway into it i bit on a filmy plastic bag. ugh. i showed the employees but they just shrugged it off and offerred to replace it. i got another coffee instead of a donut.
