Just received this notice from my bank

At ---, the safety and health of our customers, employees, and communities remains our top priority as we continue to help you with your everyday banking needs.

Due to this safety and health focus, we have been experiencing some temporary branch closures over the last several weeks and we anticipate these unexpected, temporary closures may continue to occur. We know this may be an inconvenience for our customers, and we will work as quickly as possible to restore service when it is disrupted.

It isn't a small local bank. It is a large bank with 8,183 branches in 23 states.

@drizzellla When my bank closed during the shut downs last year, we could call a number to make an appmt to be let in, for example to get something out of our safety deposit box. The branch manager would open up just for the appmt.

Well, if all the bank tellers and/or the management call out sick, then there is nobody there to operate the bank branch for the day.

School districts are having the same problems, which is why certain schools are going on and off virtual.

Most places do not have substitute workers available to fill in as in previous years.

Many large businesses continue to allow staff to work at home as well.

This is what happens when a pandemic continues and continues.

Yes, we also made appointments last year at the bank to handle banking needs that couldn't be handled in the drive through.

Now the branches are closed - doors locked, lights out. And sometimes for days at a time.

My aunt was at her large bank last week and they were only allowing a few people in at a time. The manager came out and ushered those that were outside in and closed and locked the door behind them. They only had two employees and had to close for the day.

@drizzellla - Ours is also a larger one. It bought out our regional one about 10 years ago. Right before Christmas our local branch closed. We have to go to another town. It's OK for me, but a lot of small businesses were inconvenienced.

My bank is only doing drive thru at this time. Lobby service requires an appointment.

bank of america....appointments only for things other than "regular banking."

lots of employees there, but usually only 2 tellers open at any given time.

closed their drive thru banking permanently.

one drive up ATM, one walk up ATM. they should install ATMs at all the drive thru banking lanes that are no longer open.

banking these days isnt what it used to be.......

Covid has put a huge stop in sevices across many industries throughout the country.

The National Guard is being used to help in hospitals and drive school buses.

Both our credit union and Bank of America have done the same🤦‍♀️.

Last week we went to BOA to do some financial business -- closest branch closed..no notice nothing. Called 800# to find nearest one -- they told us was in town 25 minutes away -- you guessed it - branch closed even had overgrown bushes.

Very frustrating as we are not comfortable doing transactions online or over the phone.

Forget credit union that's a toss-up not enough tellers so they closed every other day.

It's just annoying but totally understandable. We know branch mgr at BOA and she told us "it's expensive to hire, train new people who end up quitting after a few weeks", therefore, they don't hire site tellers.

Not new around here. All the major banks had closures from 2020 until around summer 2021. Some have closed again but not as many. However, a branch may be closed unexpectedly if too many employees are out sick.

@ellaphant Our governor announced today that qualified National Guard members are getting a quickie teacher training course and will be filling in in schools.

I got the same message. I do my banking mostly online so it's not an inconvenience for me. I also have two other banks with accounts if for some reason I need to do an on-site transaction.

The B of A near me still has drive thru open and one drive thru atm. I have not checked other branches. I don't know the last time I needed a drive thru. I deposit checks via my phone. I needed an appt last week to meet a notary there. Bank buildings are becoming a thing of the past. Everything is automated or electronic, which I prefer. So much easier and faster.

It happens here too with huge and small banks. It tells you people are getting, or exposed to, covid. All these deaths and sickness could be eliminated if people did the right things.

I haven't gotten a comfort level yet on banking by phone, though I do login to my account, in one bank, using my computer, to check balances and see what checks cleared and if direct deposits went in. I don't feel comfortable using my phone or iPad for that. Maybe one day I will, but not now. Nor do I use my debit card anymore. I stopped using it a few years ago and haven't missed it at all.

I have had to do to quite a bit of banking the last few weeks, moving some funds around and sending a few wires. I was just really thankful that the bank branches were open and staffed. At my main bank last year, 2 of the branches close to me had to close for 10 days, at the same time, because of Covid.

I also had to visit a few this week, doing some address changes. The branches were open and lobby access was allowed and they were easy transactions.

I haven't been inside a bank in months, probably close to a year. Although my branch is still open, I see no need to go into one. I get money from the ATM and don't have a safe deposit box.

When I go to the bank I go inside because I have a hard time reaching the tube or drawer at the drive-thru.

Nothing is more annoying than getting to the front door and see a sign up that had to close inside for the day because of staffing issues and to use the drive-thru.

Off-topic a bit, but CT is trying to lure some teachers out of retirement to help out. Our COVID rates are very high, and I have a hard time imagining an older person wanting to expose themselves. Even though vaxed, boosted, flu shots, DH and I rarely leave our home.

My SIL’s father is a “long-hauler” who survived COVID. He will be on oxygen 24/7 for the rest of his life. And FIL’s cousin just passed while in hospital with COVID.
