I'm not Kachina or Desert Di, but, yes, I have been to Roswell.

It was around 30 years ago driving from Midland, TX to California. We were on this very lonely desolate road, forget the name, no cars, all alone, no lights, only the stars, the moon, and our headlights lighting the way, at around 1 am. We saw Roswell nearby, decided to stay overnight.

I wasn't familiar with Roswell and it's connection to UFO's at the time, but when I found out, I still think about driving along that dark road from Midland to Roswell, for what seemed endless hours, only seeing deserted small towns, old shut down gas stations, all alone. No cell phones, no way to contact the outside world, and what could have happened to us.

I began a journey of finding the truth about what happened there. Still learning today since the government refuses to release all their findings, but a few people who were there talked since then and I do not doubt something unusual occurred.

I have been to Roswell, NM! We were on a western driving trip and it was a good place to stop, plus I had always wanted to see the town. It was a ticky-tacky tourist town, with lots of alien-themed souvenir shops and a museum. The museum was small, but interesting. You could spend an hour or two and see the whole town and its attractions.

It was a fun place to see, once.

@qualitygal I am currently in New Mexico about 70 miles from Roswell. We are very familiar with it and go there often. It was 1947 when the UFO crashed outside of Roswell on a ranch. Conflicting accounts from the locals who witnessed and visited the crash site and the military of what it was have lead to the current embrace by the city of its UFO lore. There are numerous tourist attractions and museums about UFOs and lots of merchandise to purchase as a souvenir of your visit. There is an annual UFO celebration and parade.

As part of the background story, Roswell sits in a remote area. The White Sands Missile Range where the first atomic bomb was detonated is about 100 or so miles to its west. Roswell was home to a large Air Force base that is now closed, but it was a huge part of the city's economy. There were 4 underground missile sites placed in the desert outside Roswell on Highway 380 that I saw often on our trips to the nearby mountains. Late one night we were traveling for a weekend in the mountains, came over a large hill, and there sat one of them that had been raised from its underground bunker. It was ready for launch and lights were shining on it. It was a sobering sight in the dark of night.

Currently, White Sands Missile Range is still a test site for new military flight technology. The Patriot Missile was tested there. The highways on the north end and south end of the range are often closed to traffic by the MPs during these flight tests. I have had to sit there as long as an hour.

Before I retired, I often drove from Midland, TX to Albuquerque, as did @Foxxee . its a long desolate drive that I always did alone with my dogs. Roswell was the halfway point that I always drove through and where I usually stopped to eat. Its just a typical small ranching community where lots of cattle and sheep are raised, that also has plentiful antelope in the area, kind of semi hilly.

Roswell has a UFO festival every summer when it's hotter than hell, and a UFO museum but I've never been to either. They've made an industry out of the UFO business. There were many credible accounts of the incident by people who you'd normally believe, so I personally don't know what to think. As far as I know, they (the aliens) haven't been back.

@On It when I was in the USAF, I had the opportunity to tour the interior of a Titan II missile silo. There were actually two silos, one for the huge missile and one for the control rooms and living quarters, all accessed by a couple of 3ft thick doors and deep.underground. Several of my male friends were missile silo commanders. Your experience must have been a sight to behold. My silo was in Arkansas. I can't remember exactly but I'm guessing the Titan missile was at least 4 or 5 stories high. Huge, impressive thing with big USA letters that I noticed were applied with Scotch tape.

I had a boyfriend who was born in Roswell. We both visited his family there when I met him in Colorado. Most of what I can remember is there wasn't a whole lot to see there. Lots of open desert, flat and dusty.

I had some experience with missile sites (long after the Little Rock accident) when I was on the SAC IG. I dropped in on Minuteman sites in Montana and Wyoming to review on site food operations. I was impressed with the stillness and isolation of the area. The nights openen up a sky with milions of stars. It would be the ideal spot for an alien visit!.

When we lived in ABQ we would drive to White Sands to go tubing. It was lots of fun. I read that it is no longer called a missile range but something else...a national park or something. Have been to Roswell several times with friends who are really into the whole UFO thing...I think the souvenirs and stuff keeps the whole place going....one visit is all you need to know lots of people are still fascinated by the whole idea, especially a "conspiracy".
