Good luck and BAD luck

Good luck (and I'm SO thrlled!): my son sent us a video of our granddaughter reading (all by herself, with no help) out loud the letter we sent her. (We don't live close by so husband or I write her a letter every week.)

She was SO proud of herself, with a big grin that also showed she's losing her baby teeth like rain. I'm a very proud grandma; I just can help it! She's physically beautiful but what really makes me happy is her sweet, kind little spirit.

Bad luck: I bought my sister a Christmas present and I heard on the news that the factory burned down! Fortunately, it was delivered within a couple of hours before the factory was destroyed; is she going to be surprised--in a GOOD way. (I also have something else for her; I wouldn't want her to feel sad and left out.)

She's very shy and has decided to stay home on Xmas so I'm undecided as to whether or not to stay home and keep her company. My guess is that she'd LIKE a little peace and quiet and that's something I can give her, too.

What would I like to receive? Our cat that died last summer; I miss her so much. But sometimes, just to comfort myself, I imagine her up in Heaven running and playing with all the other animals (not just pets that've passed away--can you imagine a kitten teasing a lion?) Husband and I have discussed adopting a cat/kitten but we're getting too old to take care of it the way we should. Instead, we made donations to no-kill shelters.

@PuppyLoverBob666 Have you considered adopting a sedate, non-crazy middle aged or senior cat? Everybody seems to want kittens and there is such a need for homes for older cats. They have so much love to give and are so cuddly.

That's what I've always done. I've never had a kitten. One of the cats I aadopted was 18 years old and needed a home for her last years. She was the sweetest girl ever.

Sounds as if you have a right to be a proud grandma. Your granddaughter sounds sweet, intelligent, and as wonderful as can be.

As for your loved and missed kitty: my beautiful Hunter died on April 21 of this year. I have been unable to remove his photo from here as my avatar. We were so connected. To put him down was the right thing to do but very painful. I knew I could not live out my life without another fur- child. So I adopted a five year old cat I heard about at the shelter. She had lived outside her whole life and has some food allergies, but I went to the shelter and brought her home. I figured we needed one another. She still is adjusting, but every day with her makes me smile. My sweet girl, named Mia, has made this holiday special. I have an ornament with her photo that identifies 2021 as Mia's First Christmas with me.

We've gone back and forth about adopting another cat. If we were to do so, I'd like to have a pair of bonded, elderly cats. But after losing our cat earlier this year, I can't go through that again -- I'm sure a lot of you understand. That's why we donate to rescue and no-kill shelters now.
