ULTA HEIST

Five males entered a Macungie, PA Ulta carrying bags and grabbed $20,000 worth of merchandise in 40 seconds.

Police believe the items will be sold on the internet.

Is this happening worldwide, or just here in the US?

Yep ! and Thanks to the poster for putting this crime out there.

I don't buy any cosmetics off the internet unless it's QVC or HSN. Thank goodness I have not had any issues with cosmetics (except ONCE 20 yrs ago) and I am assured I would be able to return without a problem.

I feel comfortable seeing the vendor on TV and the promise of a no-hassle return.

@Cookie2025 whatever I can buy locally I do. I know nothing insures total safety, but I feel as if I get a bit by shopping face to face.

I guess there is no way to stop them. When I go into my usual places, Walmart, Costco and a few local grocery stores I feel relatively safe. I do own pepper spray and a very loud safety alarm... but I have not carried them yet because I am worried I will injure myself. LOL

There is general sentiment that THEY will not be caught and if caught will be let go. Law and order has been very very very compromised at the expense of good citizens just trying to do the right thing and living from day to day in these times.

I don't know but it makes me leary of going to any big box store. It also happened at a Home Depot for goodness sake's. I do shop locally mom & pop stores but they're dwindling on Main Street. I order online from the bigger retailers since they ship for free and delivery is within a few days. I hope this recent trend of looting will end after the Christmas holidays. Stay safe!

I too am afraid if I carry pepper spray ect it will be accidentally discharged. I was in a closed car with a girlfriend who did just that. It was awful. Thank goodness it was in a Target parking lot and someone got some milk and water to help us out.

I’ve noticed a couple stores here lock their door and an employee lets you in when they see someone at the door. I could see this practice helping to deter but maybe not in all instances.

Get a Gun? They should have the right to shoot these people.

Hire a security guard so you can leave the doors locked. The guard will have to let you in? The doors would still need to be opened from the inside in case of emergency.

I would not tolerate this if I was business owner. They need to deal with it before it gets worse.

Exactly, you think other countries tolerate this BS ! In India if your caught stealing a apple they chop off your hand. Over here you sell on Ebay.

This is the kind of thing that happens all the time in lawless areas in some countries in Central and South America. (Not everywhere in the region, of course.)

In those areas, if you have any money at all, whenever you leave your gated compound, you have to have armed guards with you to avoid being kidnapped at gunpoint. And stores that sell anything of value have to post guards and keep their doors locked.

Everyday people like you and me aren't allowed to shop in those stores. Only the elite are allowed in them. You and I have to take our chances that we won't be robbed on the way to or from the convenience store or market.

It's what happens anywhere in the world when law and order break down and organized crime and militias take over.

Those places all have grisly punishments for stealing and other crimes. Extremely scary prisons. So fear of punishment isn't what's lacking. It's a corrupt justice system that doesn't actually stand for justice. And bribable law enforcement.

There is no reason to take seriously any laws that can be used against you even if you are innocent. Or laws that will allow you to get away with committing a crime, but not someone else. In those places the law is applied differently to different people based on which in group or out group you belong to.

If you're in the out group, crimes can be committed against you with impunity. So you're on your own and owe nothing to anyone else in the group that has become your enemy. Only a complete chump trusts in the law under those conditions. Better to join a criminal gang or other corrupt group in order to have more safety in numbers.

It's what always happens when society breaks down and corrupt and criminal elements take over. Power abhors a vacuum.

They're not after "individuals" like you and I @bonnielu . By the time you've noticed anything these groups are gone. They don't want nothing from you. They want the goods from the store (more valuable). What is your pepper spray gonna do?

These organized crime groups are not looking to rob you. They want the merchandise in the store @Cookie2025 .

In France there were a couple of these kinds of break-ins. They were at very high-end jewelry stores. With one guard at the door, the half-dozen-or-so men who broke in got away.

We seem to be having these thefts weekly, almost daily, in the US. I agree with the post about lawlessness and the breakdown of civility. There are multiple causes but we must keep in mind that those who are ignorant of history are doomed to repeat it.

Catch and release programs don't work....so they just stopped trying to catch them.

The only way to stop this is to dramatically toughen up the laws and prosecute them to the fullest.

I don't know the answer, but this "smash and grab" has got to stop.

Really, I am so tired of chaos everywhere. Pity the younger generations who have much more time (one hopes) and will very likely have to face down one madness after the other.

Guns, random violence, pandemics, economic insecurity...

(I'm wishing the younger generations a long life, but I am saddened that they might have one threat after the other plaguing them. Just want to make this clear.)
